3. General Background of Project or Assignment:
UNHCR MCO Hungary, is currently looking for a talented and motivated candidate, with an outstanding interest in providing thematic choir and music activities as a music teacher in “Budapest Helps!” Information and Community Centre in response to ongoing war in Ukraine.
The Centre provides information and information sessions on relevant topics: legal counselling, access to education and support on school enrolment, access to health care, employment assistance, support with administrative issues, etc.; Information for third-country nationals on accommodation, ticketing, temporary residence permit, etc.; Children’s programs (arts and crafts, robotics classes, etc.); Recreational activities through art and culture; Hungarian and English classes; Arts programming, arts performances and workshops; Awareness raising and empowerment programs; Community support programs; Ukrainian cultural and community events, and more.
UNHCR MCO Hungary wishes to expand creative activities in “Budapest Helps!” Information and Community Centre as one of the pillars of intervention to support mental health and psychosocial wellbeing. Recreational activities being a part of basic psychological support promote positive mental health and psychosocial wellbeing and resilience, social interaction, and social cohesion activities within communities.
4. Overall Purpose and Scope of Assignment:
The Music Teacher will provide various music activities in “Budapest Helps!” Information and Community Centre and will work with CBP unit of UNHCR Representation for Central Europe, duty station Budapest. In particular, she/he will contribute to the following tasks in two major areas of work:
a) Conducting Choir and Music activities
- Conduct 2-hour-long Choir rehearsal classes held in “Budapest Helps!” Information and Community Centre one time a week and 1,5-hour-long Choir rehearsal classes one time a week
- Select all music to be sung by the choir. Music should be appropriate to support promotion of positive mental health and psychosocial wellbeing and resilience, and follow the theme appointed for the day. Music selections shall be specified to the designated focal point in CBP unit as a monthly plan on the last week of the previous month.
- Conduct one-hour-long thematic music classes for children in “Budapest Helps!” Information and Community Centre one time per week. This will be various thematic classes on rotating basis monthly: musical development of children 1-3 years old together with their mothers, artistic culture in Hungary, Ukrainian folk songs for children aged 7-11, playing children's musical instruments, musical and rhythmic development for children, musical games, musical fairy tale and other music thematic classes approved by to the designated focal point in CBP unit as a monthly plan on the last week of the previous month.
- Any other related tasks that may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
b) General responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to the CBP Unit, including submitting attendance lists for the classes, quarterly reports with main highlights. For preparation for the classes as well as reporting additional half an hour weekly will be allocated.
- Support provision of visual materials, including submission of consent forms to the use of images, making photo and videos from the classes.
- Provide support to Digital Community Manager Assistant and Cultural Coordinator in UNHCR MCO Hungary with helping draft information materials on thematic classes for public outreach.
- Maintain an orderly, clean, and safe environment.
- Perform any other duties as required and as delegated by the direct supervisor.
5. Qualification and experience required (degree required, years of work experience, field of expertise, language required):
- Degree in music teaching and music education for children and a minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching music.
- National of Hungary or a holder of a valid residence permit in Hungary;
- Strong communication skills;
- Autonomy in work, sense of initiative and readiness to work as a team member.
6. Language requirements:
- Ukrainian knowledge is required
- English/Hungarian is desired.
7. Suggested fee and currency: gross HUF 6,500/hour.
8. Work schedule: an average of 20-25 hours per month
9. Payment schedule: payment will be made in monthly instalments, according to the timesheet approved by the supervisor.
10. Additional Information:
Candidates must be legally present in Hungary at the time of application, recruitment and hire.
