Work LocationRemote Expected duration3 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe UN Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional levels. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP’s Industry and Economy Division works with international governments and non-governmental organizations, national and local governments, business and industry to develop and implement policies, strategies, and practices that are cleaner and safer, incorporate environmental costs, use natural resources efficiently, reduce pollution and risks for humans and the environment, and enable the implementation of conventions and international agreements. The UNEP Plastics Initiative is UNEP’s programme to activate and scale up global, regional, and national actions to tackle plastic pollution. The initiative consolidates all UNEP's plastic-related projects, activities, actions, and results into a unified programme that leads and implements a system-wide transformation towards a safe circular economy of plastics. Through collaboration with diverse stakeholders, ongoing projects, and a multifaceted approach, the Initiative seeks to accelerate market transformation towards a circular economy of plastics. A Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant is sought to compile best practices and produce knowledge products based on the project implementation experiences under the UNEP Plastics Initiative. The consultancy will be focused on delivering the following tasks: • Analyse key achievement of projects in ASEAN countries under the UNEP Plastics Initiative; • Compile best practices of circular policies and regulations to reduce plastic pollution in ASEAN countries; • Compile best practices of business actions to reduce plastic pollution in ASEAN countries; • Support a training event for the ASEAN countries under the China Trust Fund project; • Support the preparation of relevant knowledge products of the UNEP Plastics Initiative; • Support result-based monitoring and evaluation of projects under the UNEP Plastics Initiative; • Provide inputs to outreach materials derived from projects. Qualifications/special skillsBachelor’s degree in social sciences, environmental studies, development studies, or a related field is required. A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the field of monitoring and evaluation is required. Experience in compiling and developing best practices and knowledge products for projects, programmes, or initiatives is required. Experience of working on specific topics related to plastics, circular economy, and sustainable consumption and production would be an advantage. Excellent written and verbal English proficiency is required, in addition to the ability to independently generate clear and concise content for diverse audiences. Experience of working in an international and intergovernmental organization is an asset. LanguagesFluency in English (oral and written) is required. Additional InformationNot available.
