Project Context and Scope

Labour migration is central to Central Asia’s economy, with thousands seeking work abroad each year to support their families through remittances, yet it carries gendered risks—especially for women who face limited access to tailored information, sexual and reproductive health services, and heightened exposure to discrimination, exploitation, and GBV/SEAH. To address these challenges, the IOM-led “Safe Migration of Seasonal Workers from Central Asia to the UK” project promotes rights-based, gender-responsive migration governance and has developed a Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) module on GBV/SEAH to equip migrants with knowledge on prevention and support. To build political will and ensure systemic change, a two-day event is planned: a high-level round table on 6 November to raise awareness, secure senior-level commitment, and present the PDO module, followed by a training on 7 November to strengthen PDO trainers’ skills in delivering gender- and protection-sensitive sessions—ultimately fostering safer, more dignified, and inclusive labour migration aligned with international obligations.
