  Context

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission in Tunisia, the direct supervision of the Media and Communications Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting communications, media relations, and public information functions within the Programme Support Unit (PSU). The incumbent will assume the functions and the following responsibilities in accordance with IOM’s regulations, rules, and procedures.

  • Gather, prepare, and disseminate public information on IOM activities in Tunisia, and assist in developing standard media messaging and lines to address key migration issues.
  • Draft public information material for IOM's newsletter, press briefing notes, website, social media, and other media outlets, in coordination with the Media and Communications Officer.
  • Assist with updating the content of the mission's website and social media accounts in coordination with the Media and Communications Officer. 
  • Translate non-official media and communications content from English to Arabic and Arabic to English or French as required.
  • Assist with implementing, and monitoring Standards Operating Procedures to be used between the projects, partners, and beneficiaries in the context of project activities which entail communication and outreach. 
  • Assist with conducting a media stakeholder analysis to identify relevant media partners, including press, radio, and TV.
  • Assist with maintaining strong relationships with the media to promote a positive migration narrative in Tunisia.
  • Draft a daily news digest to be approved by supervisor prior to disseminating to a selected list of IOM recipients.
  • Prepare regular internal updates on key activities and achievements by the mission to be disseminated to all IOM Tunisia staff. 
  • Assist in creating messages and visuals elements for communication activities in line with IOM’s media and visibility guidelines and donor guidelines. 
  • Support with the preparation and organization of events, meetings, and trainings with key stakeholders to promote IOM activities (including talking points and speeches/presentations). 
  • Support in verifying that the mission's planned communication activities are in line with IOM's media and visibility guidelines.

    Perform other tasks that the supervisor may assign Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Media, Journalism or in any related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience in developing and implementing communications strategies, action plans and performance monitoring frameworks, preferably in the field of migration, or.
    • High school diploma with five years of experience in the above fields. Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.   Experience
      • Experience in media, PR, and administrative duties.
      • Good knowledge of a range of applications and software including social media platforms, audio-visual production, graphic design, photography, video editing and social media management, and Microsoft Office.
      • Excellent written and oral communications skills in Arabic, English, and French.
      • Knowledge of the work of international organizations, humanitarian and development context is an advantage. Skills
        • Confident use of professional graphic design programmes (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator) and Publisher. 
        • Ability to work independently in a multi-task and multi-deadline environment.
        • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, setting goals and timelines.
        • Familiarity with the Tunisia, North Africa region and the African Continent is an advantage.

          For this position, fluency in English, French and Arabic is required (oral and written).
