of: Marketing and Behavior Change Advisor.

FHI 360 is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Marketing and Behavior Change Advisor for the upcoming USAID DRC Rural and Peri-Urban Sanitation Activity. This is a five-year project. Recruitment is contingent upon funding by USAID.

Candidate should be trained in applied behavioral science, marketing, community development, or health promotion with experience in coordination, planning, monitoring large scale marketing and behavior change programs. She/he should have a deep understanding of and experience in comprehensive marketing and behavior change methodologies, including the role of community groups, businesses, financing, and government in supporting changes in practices at household and community level.

Job Summary/Responsibilities:

The Marketing and Behavior Change Advisor will have overall responsibility for technical direction and implementation of marketing and behavior change activities, ensuring overall program activities achieve measurable impacts for increase in uptake of improved sanitation and hygiene practices.

Specifically, she/he will work closely with the COP and the project’s technical staff and stakeholders to:

  • Demand generation strategy design, implementation, and evaluation
  • Support project staff to understand and apply behavioral science tools and approaches to select and integrate evidence-based behavior change techniques into behavior-centered interventions
  • Participate in conducting a comprehensive assessment of the existing private sector market for related products and services
  • Provide technical support to design, manage and apply formative assessments which identify consumer demand for WASH products, and related drivers of behaviors/products of interest
  • Liaise as required with creative and media-related organizations
  • Apply findings of assessment and stakeholder input to develop a demand generation strategy for existing and new WASH products
  • Manage complex rural and urban community mobilization, demand creation and behavior change activities involving multiple program partners
  • Responsible for planning and scheduling workflow and timetables of the demand generation and behavior change programming
  • Identifies areas for improved efficiency or effectiveness of the demand generation and behavior change programming, using project monitoring data for adaptive management to achieve targets on time and budget
  • Document learning and contribute to knowledge-sharing products and activities
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with stakeholders including relevant government agencies, bilateral agencies, private sector organizations, CSOs, and NGOs
  • Ensures that project implementation adheres to the appropriate global strategy, best technical practices and FHI 360 standards and procedures.

    Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in applied behavioral science, marketing, health promotion, communication, or related social science discipline is required.
    • At least 8 years of experience in technical implementation of large projects or programs providing leadership in behavior change, social marketing and community development programs.
    • Experience in coordination, planning, monitoring large scale development initiatives with government or the private sector.
    • Subject-matter expertise in sanitation and hygiene marketing and behavior change programming.
    • Deep understanding of a range of comprehensive program methodologies that go beyond messaging to catalyze behavior change, including those that engage community groups, businesses, financing, and government in supporting changes at household and community levels.
    • Experience with sanitation and hygiene promotion is preferred.
    • Experience working with government, businesses, and communities in DRC is highly preferred.
    • Project management (PM) certification preferred.
    • Fluent oral and written communication skills in French and English; ability to write effectively in English for technical documents.
