Organizational Background

The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization with its headquarters in Vienna, Austria is the international organization setting up the global verification system foreseen under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which is the treaty banning any nuclear-weapon-test explosion or any other nuclear explosion. The Treaty provides for a global verification regime, including a network of 337 facilities worldwide, a communications system, an international data centre and on-site inspections to monitor compliance.

Organizational Setting

This position is located in the Systems Applications and Web Unit, Automatic Processing Systems Section, International Data Centre Division (IDC).

Under the supervision of Chief, Automatic Processing Systems Section, to:

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide support to the LINUX/UNIX and other systems of the Secretariat including installation, configuration, deployment and support to mass storage systems, servers and workstations (including hardware and software), application of patches, management of file systems, system monitoring; Diagnose and troubleshoot operating system, storage, and LDAP servers; Ensure that systems incidents and requests are addressed fully, and taking responsibility for dealing with tickets as per procedures to ensure agreed time limits are met and properly logged and quality standards achieved; Assist with replacement and rollout projects within sections such as hardware and software migration, monitoring of licenses in use by end users as well as various ad hoc projects; Prioritise and undertake own workload with minimal supervision to maintain and improve the efficiency of LINUX/UNIX support service delivery to end users; Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Completed secondary education and training in a field related to network systems and/or computer technical support.

Work Experience and Qualifications

At least five (5) years of relevant working experience with Enterprise Linux systems, clustering and virtualization technologies (e.g. VMware, Oracle, RedHat), and backup/disaster recovery solutions; Proven working experience as a Linux/Unix Support Technician, IT Help Desk Technician, Cloud Services Administrator or a similar role. Knowledge of web components such as Apache, Tomcat, LDAP servers is essential; Good knowledge of service desk procedures and processes, specifically incident/problem and service management is essential; Strong customer/user orientation and ability to communicate easily and well with both technical and non-technical staff at all levels in a multicultural environment, with respect and sensitivity for diversity; Ability to work effectively in small teams; Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Languages

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential; Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is desirable.

CTBTO offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in accordance with the policies of the International Civil Service Commission.
