The Opportunity
Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Legal Counsel. The role holder will be part of a broader Save the Children International team and, together with others in the legal team, will be responsible for advising on the legal aspects of a global reorganisation of Save the Children International, to enable the safe and compliant delivery of Save the Children's international operations.
The role holder will engage at all levels of the organisation to advise on a range of complex legal issues and risks arising from the reorganisation. This will range from working directly with the Country Offices on local registration processes to working with senior stakeholders within London as well as globally on legal implications arising from a global reorganisation. The role will also involve coordination of legal advice from various law firms on domestic (i.e. the UK) and foreign law issues arising from the reorganisation efforts.
This role is suited for a junior to mid-level lawyer who enjoys working on complex projects across multiple practice areas and with a wide range of stakeholders to support Save the Children in one of its most critical projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified as a solicitor or barrister in England or a common law jurisdiction with a minimum of 3 years' PQE
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential
Experience of one or more of the following areas of law: general corporate, commercial / contract, restructuring, employment, finance, charity/not-for-profit, intellectual property or dispute resolution
Demonstrated ability to strategically manage work priorities by addressing immediate critical issues and progressing long-term aims.
Ability to work independently and use initiative to tackle new areas of law with confidence.
Exceptional legal skills
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels and across different cultures and to act with credibility and diplomacy
Maintains a calm disposition and positive outlook, particularly when working under pressure
Constructive approach
Team player, with a full appreciation of the value of collaboration
Good understanding of the context in which Save the Children operates.
Commitment to the mission, vision and values of Save the Children.
Desirable
Project management and stakeholder management experience.
Experience operating in a range of jurisdictions, including instructing overseas counsel
Previous in-house experience preferred
