Nature of the consultancy
Under the overall supervision of the Program Manager (DA and AVRR) and the direct supervision of the Programme Assistant, the consultant will assist in delivering legal awareness sessions and providing legal services to migrants and refugees in vulnerable situation, including victims of human rights abuses and exploitation. The selected candidate is expected to carry out his/her duties in accordance with the strictest moral and ethical standards and with due respect for gender and socio-cultural differences.
Project Context and Scope
The Direct Assistance (DA) team of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is dedicated to delivering a range of services, including psychosocial, medical, legal, educational, financial, livelihood, housing, and non-food items (NFIs), to support vulnerable migrants and victims of trafficking in Egypt. Recognizing the unique experiences of each migrant, the Direct Assistance program is committed to offering customized interventions and support to effectively address the distinct needs and circumstances of each individual client.

Tasks to be performed under this contract
The lawyer consultant will submit a financial proposal-along with job application as an attachment-in EGP for each item related to the services below:

Birth Certificate issuance - 15+ days after the birth date
Birth Certificate issuance - within 15 days from the birth date
Legal support with issuance of legal documentation (Cairo)
Legal support with issuance of legal documentation (outside Cairo)
Legal Assistance with Child Custody
Filling a police report
Legal Awareness sessions (Cairo)
Legal Awareness session (outside Cairo)
Legal counselling
Human Trafficking Case (Intervention requires pre-approved)
Supporting developing legal guidelines and legal updates document (IOM use)
Appeal case
Defence before Prosecutor/Delinquency
A degree in Law from a recognized institution.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in providing legal assistance, preferably with migrants or in human rights law.
ExperienceExperience in representing clients in legal proceedings.
Knowledge of national and international laws relating to migration and human rights.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong computer skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in legal research and writing.
Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple cases simultaneously.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals.
LanguagesProficiency in Arabic and English speaking and writing.
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. Travel required
