Result of ServiceUltimate result of service The OHCHR Myanmar Team will have obtained sufficient interviews with primary sources of information to fulfill its monitoring and reporting mandate as well as to advance progress on the overall monitoring of the human rigths situation in Myanmar as well as the research for the reporting obligations to the Human Rights Council's 60th session. Work LocationRemote Expected duration1 March - 30 November 2025 Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe overall objective of this consultancy is to support the implementation of the OHCHR Myanmar Team mandate by addressing critical knowledge gaps regarding documentation of human rights violations and other violations of international law by all parties in the context of Myanmar. These skills and knowledge are not available within the OHCHR Myanmar Team due to a number of factors, including the complete lack of access to the country and the impossibility to establish trusted relationships with key stakeholders. Effective outreach to primary sources of information and quality interpretation of communications are of utmost importance for documentation purposes and to effectively implement the monitoring and reporting mandate of the Office, including its reporting to UN Human Rights Mechanisms. Based on this, for the successful completion of these tasks, the IC will: - Monitor media and social media in Rohingya and other relevant languages to gather information on possible human rights violations; - Identify victims, witnesses, and other primary sources of information with regard to human rights violations and other violations of international law with particular focus on the Rohingya community; - Coordinated with relevant members of the Myanmar Team to secure safe communication with identified sources; - Provide interpretation and other forms of technical assistance as needed during formal communications with sources of information; - Translate relevant documents, including audio messages; - Identify and recommend areas for further research and monitoring by OHCHR staff; - Carry out any other related duties as requested by the Myanmar Team Leader and/or his delegate within the Myanmar Team. Qualifications/special skillsHigh school diploma is a minimum requirement coupled with three years of relevant professional experience in interpretation and/or translation. Demostrated existance of extended network of contacts is also required. For this post, the IC must possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of the human rights situation of the Rohingya community in Myanmar and there years of experience on these topics; necessary language skills to effectively communicate with Rohingya community members; and enjoy a degree of trust among the community for effective outreach and interviews. Knowledge of and prior experience with OHCHR's methods of work is an advantage.
