The position is to be filled by 1 January 2022, with a contract duration of two years. Employment location during the first year will be Bonn, Germany. The employment location of the second year will be determined during the third quarter of the first year.
The Humanitarian Directorate (HD) consists of office staff based in Bonn, as well as the Emergency Response Team, which can be deployed to any crisis within 48 hours. The overall aim of the HD is to enable Welthungerhilfe (WHH) to respond quickly, effectively, and responsibly to humanitarian crises and disasters and to be recognised nationally and internationally as a competent humanitarian actor. As Junior Expert Humanitarian Aid, you will support the Emergency Response Coordinator in the coordination of emergency responses, monitor crises globally, support the implementation of humanitarian standards and assist with emergency preparedness and response planning processes in Welthungerhilfe's programme countries. After a 12-month stay in our Head Office in Bonn, a 12-month stay abroad preferably in an ongoing emergency aid project in one of our Country Offices will follow.
Support the operational implementation of emergency measures at Head Office and in WHH's Country Offices
Support the coordination and administrative management of the Emergency Response Team and WHH's internal staff emergency roster
Monitor crises worldwide, with a particular focus on WHH's programme countries
Contribute to and further develop technical concepts of emergency aid
Support the operational coordination and administrative management of the Emergency Response Team
Assist in the preparation of regular updates on the status of implementation of HD projects and on the further development of emergency response capacities
Support the preparation of project planning documents in consultation with the Humanitarian Director
Assist in the search for institutional donors to finance emergency aid projects
Participate in national and international coordination committees of humanitarian aid and HD-relevant working groups within WHH
Support emergency measures on-site within the scope of the second-year deployment abroad
A university degree with a completion of a graduate programme (e.g. NOHA/ SLE) relevant to the position is desirable
Experience in the planning and implementation of emergency measures or relevant topics of emergency aid
International experience, e.g. as part of an internship or previous work experience
Strong competence in intercultural communication and teamwork
High levels of flexibility, adaptability as well as stress resilience
Ability to work in difficult and volatile situations
Very good command of spoken and written English, German and/or French language skills are an advantage
