As we build a cutting-edge Data Ecosystem for the Arab Region, we are engaged in diverse projects spanning data management, pipeline development, visualization, pre-processing, machine learning, optimization, and large language model (LLM) initiatives. We are looking for forward-thinking professionals to drive these projects and bolster our data science expertise. This position seeks a junior AI Engineer with a focus on AI/ML and LLM applications. The successful candidate will interpret complex datasets, perform advanced data pre-processing, and implement modern ML and LLM algorithms. This role is pivotal in delivering innovative solutions for data science applications, thereby contributing significantly to DSDSD’s strategic initiatives. Duties and Responsibilities: Reporting to the Chief of the Data Science and Decision Support Division and under the direct supervision of the Head of the Decision Engineering and Analytical Insights unit, the junior AI Engineer will: - Develop & Deploy ML/LLM Models: Design, implement, and optimize advanced machine learning and large language model algorithms. - Data Preparation: Support efforts in data collection, cleaning, and pre-processing to ensure robust, high-quality inputs for analytical models. - Data Analysis: Identify, analyze, and interpret patterns in complex datasets—particularly those related to job skills market trends. - Collaboration: Work closely with senior data engineers and data scientists to integrate ML/LLM solutions into broader projects. - Model Enhancement: Continuously refine existing models and algorithms to improve performance and scalability. - Technical Support: Provide expertise and support in all aspects of ML/LLM development and deployment. - Best Practices: Follow professional software engineering standards, including coding best practices, version control, rigorous testing, and code reviews. - Communication: Articulate technical concepts clearly and concisely in both written and verbal formats. - Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as needed to achieve project goals. Qualifications/special skillsA Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 2 years of professional work experience in an AI/ML engineering role or a closely related position is required. Strong understanding of ML and AI algorithms, techniques, and state-of-the-art methodologies is required. Proficiency in database design, data normalization, and advanced data analysis using SQL, Python and R is required. Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience with self-service analytics and data visualization tools is required. Practical experience with cloud-based data technologies (AWS, Azure, etc) is required. Familiarity with cloud ETL tools is desirable. Demonstrable interest or experience in developing and deploying large language models (LLMs) is highly desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required and knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
