Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Section Chief and the Chief Interpreter, the incumbent is responsible for the timely coordination, processing, and delivery of administrative and support activities related to the provision of interpretation services.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Processes requests for Fund interpretation services and coordinates logistical and administrative arrangements covering all aspects of interpretation assignments.

Ensures that interpretation requests properly reflect user needs and comply with existing Fund rules and procedures.

Acts as a liaison with requestors of interpretation services, mission chiefs, Resident Representatives, technical assistance experts, HRD, FIN, and interpreters.

Assists in the process of selecting suitable and available interpreters from the worldwide roster, offering assignments to contractual interpreters through oral and written communications in multiple languages.

Prepares letters of agreement, cost estimates, and receipts.

Assists in contract administration of interpreters recruited on long-term assignments for technical assistance experts.

Provides logistical support to Interpretation Services recruitment campaigns.

Additional Responsibilities:

Responsible for entering and maintaining information in the Interpretation Office System database pertaining to personnel records of contractual interpreters worldwide. Data includes feedback on performance, records of all interpretation assignments, a wide and complex array of contracts, differentiated interpretation remuneration rates for several categories of services and for all countries where service is provided, record of interpreters’ availability, as well as statistical and budgetary data.

Responsible for maintaining and deploying portable simultaneous interpretation equipment and for providing relevant training to contractual technicians and interpreters on the deployment, usage and troubleshooting of such equipment.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Educational development, typically acquired by the completion of a university degree, or equivalent, in Translation, Linguistics, or a related field, is required.

In addition, the ideal candidate will possess:

- Excellent drafting skills in English as well good oral and written communication skills and proven negotiating skills.

- Excellent interpersonal and client service skills to deal effectively with Fund staff at all levels.

- Knowledge of Fund administrative policies and procedures are preferred. Up-to-date knowledge of portable simultaneous interpretation equipment.

- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software and an ability to quickly master new software applications and keep abreast of technical innovations in office automation, including AI.

- A high level of initiative, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines and to exercise good judgment to reset priorities as needed.

- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and availability to work overtime on short notice.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to take a test and will be invited to an interview.

This is a two-year contractual appointment. Contractual appointments at the IMF are renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, pending incumbent's performance, budget availability, and continuous business need.

Only candidates who are currently residing in the Washington DC metro area will be considered.
