Work LocationHybrid, Canberra Expected duration2-4 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Information Centers (UNICs) belong to the Information Centres Services (ICS), Campaigns and Country Operations (CCOD) of the Department of Global Communication (DGC). The UNICs are the principal sources of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located. They are also responsible for promoting greater public understanding of, and support the aims and activities of, the United Nations by disseminating information on the work of the Organization to people everywhere, especially in developing countries. The Department of Global Communications internship is for a minimum of two months and maximum of four months. Interns work two days per week (14 hours) part-time, under the supervision of the National Information Officer and other office staff. Internships over the Winter term will also be considered. Responsibilities • The selected intern will perform duties to include, but not limited to, the following: • Support research and outreach efforts for Information Integrity initiatives across the Pacific region. • Assist with content and design of videos, social media posts and conduct analysis of social media metrics; • Assist with the production of communication products (eg. Website) • Conducting research, compiling information, coordinating logistics, and assisting with public enquiries; • Assist with preparations for other events, high-level visitors from headquarters and field offices, and speaking engagements; • Compile, analyse and organise data for office reports; • Attend meetings and draft summaries; • Perform other tasks as necessary. Qualifications/special skillsPlease note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Program, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, b. Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent) Applicants must also: -Be computer literate in standard software applications. -Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. -Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Desirable • Keen interest in international affairs, international organisations, management and change • Strong planning, writing and communication skills • Proficient in standard software applications • Attention to detail and a passion for researching big-picture issues • Familiarity with the United Nations is desirable • Knowledge of social media • Australia, New Zealand and/or Pacific specific experience is a plus. “No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
