Work LocationBangkok Office Expected duration3 - 6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe UN Secretary-General launched on 1 January 2019 a bold and new global reform which repositioned the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and efficiently with the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. As part of this reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), under the leadership of an empowered and independent UN Resident Coordinator - the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System and Representative of the UN Secretary-General at country level - support countries in the achievement of their development priorities and the attainment of the SDGs. This position is located in the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in Thailand. The internship is UNPAID and full-time for the duration of either a minimum internship period of 3 months of full-time engagement, and 4 months for part-time. Interns work at least 35 hours per week/ 5 days a week for full-time or 2.5 days a week for part-time internship, reporting for work in the office with the possibility of remote work arrangements. This intern will report to the Communications & Advocacy Officer and will support the Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO).The intern will gain first-hand experience with regard to the activities of the UN Country Team through the RCO team in public outreach, digital communications and advocacy, website management and visibility activities to enhance UN contributions and range of activities in Thailand. The intern will support the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in creating visually compelling content across multiple platforms to enhance public understanding of and engagement with the UN’s work in Thailand. They will focus on producing impactful designs, illustrations, and digital assets that resonate with diverse audiences, especially young people. A strong interest in visual storytelling, graphic design, and digital content production is essential, along with familiarity with design tools and social media trends. 1. Design and production of high-quality visual content for digital platforms • Develop at least two visually engaging social media assets (graphics, infographics, or illustrations) per week in Thai and English for UN social media channels. • Reformat and localize existing visual content from UN agencies, funds, and programs for digital distribution, ensuring cultural and linguistic appropriateness. • Collaborate with the team to create design concepts for campaigns, event materials, and visual branding, maintaining consistency with UN guidelines. 2. Research and innovation in graphic design and visual strategies • Research and integrate best practices in color theory, typography, and layout to enhance the visual appeal and effectiveness of UN messaging. • Stay up-to-date with the latest design trends, tools, and techniques, offering innovative ideas for graphics and interactive content. • Experiment with motion graphics or animation (if applicable) to create dynamic digital content for campaigns. 3. Support in multimedia storytelling and visual campaigns • Assist in creating presentation templates, posters, banners, or other multimedia assets for UN-led events and initiatives. • Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute creative ideas for campaigns targeting young audiences. 4. Administrative and team collaboration • Provide ad hoc support for event preparation, including the design of promotional materials, digital banners, or on-site visuals. • Assist in organizing visual asset libraries for easy access and efficient workflow. • Support other technical and logistical tasks as needed. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter and backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or equivalent. Basic knowledge of social media platforms and tools for optimizing visual content. A keen eye for detail, creativity, and the ability to work under tight deadlines. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
