Tätigkeitsbereich

The local implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and related climate-friendly urban investments, including a green recovery following the Covid-19 pandemic, requires strong cities and subnational actors. Yet urban institutions face significant barriers to plan and implement much-needed mitigation and adaptation action: They need sufficient capacities, (financial) resources and instruments.
The program Leading Urban Climate Action (LUCA) therefore focuses on strengthening the international architecture and partnership structures. The aim is to improve the conditions for climate-friendly investments and the implementation of NDCs at the local level in developing and emerging countries, for example through initiatives like LUCI – Leadership for Urban Climate Investment, CCFLA – Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance, or the NDC Partnership.
As such, the project advises the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK).
The project team is located in Bonn and Berlin. The position is affiliated within the GloBe (Sector and Global Programs) department at GIZ.

Ihre Aufgaben

Support advisory work to BMWK on sub-national climate policy and finance related topics, including BMWK's participation in relevant international processes and networks surrounding this topic. Ongoing monitoring of the international field of stakeholders and discussions within the field of climate-smart urban development and subnational climate finance, including input for agenda setting into the Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance (CCFLA). Support the preparation of evaluations, status reports, position papers, publications and knowledge products. Support the conception, organization and implementation of events and/or workshops including the elaboration of background documents and speaking points, e.g. for COP27. Participation in public relations work by creating external presentation documents, internet/intranet contributions, newsletters and presentations. Contribute to knowledge and document management, particularly with regard to the collection, structuring and preparation of project relevant initiatives, tools, methods and approaches.

Ihr Profil

Currently studying or recently completed degree in international development/relations, economics, political science, urban development, geography or similar Practical experience in international cooperation, e.g. in ministries, international organizations, foundations, etc. and favorably in the private sector, e.g. in a consulting firm or in the financial sector is an advantage Work related experience with a focus on (urban) infrastructure is preferred Knowledge of international climate policy (in particular UNFCCC/NDCs) and the processes, formats and stakeholders Excellent written and oral communication skills, good conceptual and analytical skills Excellent ability to work in a structured manner and deliver tasks under time pressure Confident demeanor and ability to work in a team Fluent in English and German. Good knowledge of another language is an advantage.

We pay a monthly stipend of €1.689,- (gross).
