Work LocationRemote: Full Time Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe internships are located in the Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Section (PTRS), Drugs, Laboratory and Scientific Services Branch (DLSSB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria. Applicants have the possibility of being engaged for a period of maximum of six months, subject to the needs of the office and the availability of the candidates. The envisaged start date for the internships is end of May 2025. The internships are UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Interns will report to the Programme Officer, at UNODC's Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Section (PTRS). Intern will contribute to projects within the treatment, care and rehabilitation team of UNODC’s PTRS. Duties may include, but are not limited to: - Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents; - Assistance in drafting reports, presentations, web-, social media- and other PR materials; - Assistance in utilising and researching the application of innovations such as digital tools including artificial intelligence (AI) for effective drug treatment, rehabilitation and care - Research on drug use situation and on scientific evidence related to substance use treatment and care programmes and services; - Assistance in the preparation of technical assistance, workshops, meetings, high-level events and conferences; - Attending and summarising conferences and meetings; - Assistances during conferences and meetings. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); • Be computer literate in standard software applications; • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. • Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
