Work LocationIslamabad, PAKISTAN Expected duration06 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe UNODC Country Office for Pakistan (COPAK) is tasked with assisting Pakistan through its Country Programme 2022-2025 with a focus on needs related to illicit trafficking and border management, criminal justice and drug demand reduction and HIV/AIDS. Substance use and dependence is a public health, developmental and security problem both in industrialized and developing countries. It is associated with health problems, poverty, violence, criminal behaviour and social exclusion. Prevention and treatment of drug dependence are essential demand reduction strategies of significant public health importance; therefore, the implementation of adequate programmes is key in ensuring an appropriate balance between the need for evidence-based prevention and treatment interventions and the need of people at risk or affected by drug use disorders. Drug prevention and treatment programmes should lead to the development of innovative and efficient responses to the individual, the community and the society at large The internship is located in the Country Office for Pakistan (COPAK) in Islamabad, Pakistan, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Officer-in-Charge of Sub-Programme 3 - Drug Demand Reduction and HIV/AIDS, and the overall guidance of the Representative, COPAK. The internship is UNPAID and the interns work five days per week (full time - 40 hours). For more information on UNODC, please visit the following website: www.unodc.org The intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to: • Assist with the organization, coordination and conduct of drug demand reduction, treatment, prevention and HIV/AIDS related capacity building events, training workshops and seminars. • Assist with the review of relevant documents and reports related to the work of the Sub-Programme; identify problems and issues to be addressed and propose corrective actions; ensure follow-up actions. • Provide assistance with planning for general and administrative arrangements of Sub-Programme focused events. • Provide assistance with assignments for substantive/technical programming on drug demand reduction and especially treatment and prevention of drug use disorders. • Support in quality assuring and providing inputs to outgoing concept notes on drug demand reduction, treatment and prevention as well as HIV/AIDS. • Draft correspondence including letters and Note Verbales to Government counterparts; • Perform research on specific topics and produce reports, summaries, analyses, briefings, presentations and studies; • Attend and take notes at meetings, produce minutes and briefings on outcomes; • Perform other tasks as necessary Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D Programme.
