Duties and ResponsibilitiesThese positions are located in the Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM) in the Department of Operational Support (DOS). Our interAns work as full members of our team, pursue projects that are designed to make a significant difference in OSCM, and have opportunities to learn about the United Nations overall. The Office of Supply Chain Management includes the Office of the Assistant Secretary General for Supply Chain Management, Logistics Division, the Procurement Division, the Uniformed Capabilities Support Division, Umoja Coordination Service, Global Service Centre, Aviation Safety Section and the Enabling and Outreach Service. OSCM is committed to building efficient, agile, responsive, accountable, end-to-end uniformed capabilities and supply chain solutions for all our global partners and clients. Supply Chain Management covers a wide scope of services including supply chain planning and performance management, logistical support, procurement, vendor management and supplier diversity, aviation safety, and uniformed capabilities support. In addition to operational services and support, OSCM also provides advisory services and guidance to nearly 100 client entities globally, as well as to troop and police contributing countries (T/PCCs). The incumbent will report to the relevant Supervisor OSCM offers internship opportunities in area 2 -Data Research. The Research Data Analyst intern: • Gathers and analyzes data from various databases and sources, performing statistical and/or mathematical programming, developing reports and visual representations, developing and/or maintaining databases, and providing consultation, technical assistance, advises and assists in determining the appropriate statistical methodology to meet the needs and objectives; uses various statistical and mathematical software packages to summarize and interpret statistical results; and designs and implements study activities and process improvements. • Supports team members with data cleaning from primary or secondary sources and maintaining databases/data systems. • Creates simple data visualizations for internal or external use independently. • Translates data results into written reports, or presentations to convey information to management. • Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns, using basic machine learning techniques, statistical methods to identify relevant features and variables in structured sources of information and data. • Interest in contributing to identifying opportunities to implement innovative approaches and evidence-based reasoning to organizational issues and ensures cleaned data without major quality issues is used for complex analyses. • Gathers and analyzes data from various databases and sources, performing statistical and/or mathematical programming. • Ability to assist in the development and delivery of data science solutions to better enable the planning, decision making, and implementation of organization programmes. • Knowledge of data science, data analytics, applied mathematics, information management. • The understanding of new data sources and process pipelines, and the ability to assist in cataloguing/documenting. • Keen interest in analytics, information management, visualization, and performance optimization. • Strong knowledge of data management techniques, quantitative analysis and methods. • Knowledge of key business tools (e.g. Excel, PowerPivot, PowerPoint). Knowledge of analytics tools (e.g. Microsoft SQL, PowerBI, SAP Business Objects, Tableau, Qlik). Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the UN, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the FINAL academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Typically, for this opportunity our interns are pursuing studies and experiences in the following areas: Analytics and Business Intelligence. We seek candidates with relevant coursework in Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Visualization, or Analytics.
