Org. Setting and ReportingThis position is in the Global Innovation and Data Analytics Service (GIDAS) of the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM). The incumbent will report to the DevOps unit chief. ResponsibilitiesWithin limits of delegated authority, the Information Systems Officer will be responsible for the following duties: • Builds and maintains secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective cloud architectures and provides consistent cloud deployment, release management and quality assurance services for major DGACM applications. • Participates in projects of significant importance to the department which impact critical operations and large or multiple user groups. • Develops and continuously improves release and deployment management processes, including test automation. • Provides specialized advice to users, analyzing users’ requirements and translating these into new applications; determines application systems integration and linkage issues. • Develops disaster recovery plans and ensures appropriate planning and training of those responsible. • Manages cloud projects involving feasibility studies, systems analysis, design, development and implementation of new, moderately complex systems, and/or, participates as a member of a DevOps team with responsibility for major components of the more complex systems. • Supervise and guide junior team members, contract staff, and external vendors. • Develops detailed system and other functional specifications and user documentation for major systems. • Works closely with counterparts in the Office of Information and Communication Technology to ensure compliance with architectural standards and cybersecurity policies. • Develops training materials, operating and user manuals; trains staff in assigned systems. • Participates in writing reports and papers on systems-related topics, system requirements, information strategy, and more. • Researches, analyzes, and evaluates new technologies and makes recommendations for their deployment. • Facilitates communications between DevOps team and its clients for good client relations. Knowledge of several high-level programming languages and significant exposure to and demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of programming and analysis, including structured/object-oriented design, relational systems, scripting and query languages, document design and management, hardware and software requirements, systems facilities, and execution protocols. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, to include proficiency in the development and implementation of systems of moderate size/complexity. EducationAn advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics, or related fields is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Job - Specific QualificationAWS certification in either AWS Solutions Architect Professional, AWS DevOps Engineer professional, or AWS Security Specialty is required. ITIL (v3 or v4) certification is desirable. Certification on agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban) is desirable. TOGAF Certification is desirable. Certifications in Information Security (such as CISSP, GIAC, CRISC) are desirable. Work ExperienceA minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of computer information systems is required. Experience working with agile, globally distributed teams is required. Experience with building and maintaining complex enterprise architectures in the cloud, utilizing IaaS and SaaS concepts is required. Experience with Amazon Web Services is required. Experience with building and maintaining enterprise scale continuous integration and continuous delivery frameworks is desirable. Experience with developing test automation frameworks is desirable. Experience with Microsoft Azure services including Azure DevOps is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
