IDB Lab is searching for a consultant to help continue to build connections with top global innovation ecosystems, and with Asia in particular. IDB Lab is also striving to leverage global expertise on impact measurement, to enhance its impact agenda. With a view to multiplying its development impact in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), and better leveraging the synergies of the IDB Group, IDB Lab is in the process of consolidating its value proposition, exploring new and strategic approaches for financing, and increasing the impact of its operational model. In 2024, strengthening knowledge and finance links with Asian innovation ecosystems will be fundamental to this approach.
About this position:
The Scalability, Knowledge, and Impact (SKI) unit at IDB Lab is responsible for the design and implementation of strategic connections and knowledge, and as well as impact measurement and its reporting.
The consultant will support the development of all aspects of IDB Lab’s approach to connections and impact, ranging from support to individual teams, deployment of connections products, to development of a strong measurement framework for connections in development fields. It will also include leading analytic efforts on IDB Lab’s impact agenda, drawing from best-in-class models of impact measurement in the innovation industry.
What you’ll do:
- You will support the development of all connection and impact efforts at IDB Lab, and work across all IDB Lab units to ensure a coherent strategic approach, aligned with the business plan and with other major strategic documents adopted by IDB Lab, IDB Lab Donors, and other parts of the IDB Group. You will work closely with IDB’s internal knowledge, innovation, and communications department (KIC), the IDB outreach and partnerships department (ORP) as well as the IDB’s strategic planning department (SPD) and IDB Invest, to ensure that IDB Lab’s operations and main initiatives are supported by a robust and effective approach for connections and impact. In this role, you will have the following specific responsibilities:
- 1/ Global connections. You will develop and expand IDB Lab’s efforts to connect the LAC region with impactful players in the global innovation ecosystem, with a specific emphasis on Asia. This includes developing business leads, connecting global actors with IDB Lab’s investment (INV) and Discovery (DIS) officers, and helping to develop and implement important connections initiatives.
- 2/ Innovation-result framework. In coordination with SPD and other departments of IDB and IDB Invest, you will continue to build out a robust impact approach appropriate to IDB Lab as the IDB Group’s innovation lab. This will include pushing forward with efforts to enhance innovation results framework and digitalize its impact measurement, and better connect IDB Lab with its clients and final beneficiaries from an impact perspective.
- 3/ Knowledge approach and financial instruments. You will develop specific, high-impact knowledge products on specific verticals. These should include IDB Lab’s work on enhancing its versatility of financial instruments vis-à-vis the products that other MDBs offer, evaluating the impact and market-readiness of these instruments.
What you’ll need:
- Education. You hold a master’s degree in economics, finance, public policy, business administration, business strategy, or other relevant fields.
- Experience. You have a minimum of ten years of professional work experience in finance and/or development. You also have relevant experience in knowledge generation and impact measurement for development, as well as in engaging with global market players in Asia, with specific interests in IDB member countries from Asia. You also have relevant experience in multilateral and/or bilateral development finance organizations including central banks.
- Languages: Proficiency in English (oral and written) is required. Professional proficiency in one main Asian language is also required. A working knowledge of another main Asian language is a plus.
