ICTJ is seeking qualified applicants for the position of a full-time junior consultant (40 hours per week) to act as its Program Assistant in Ethiopia. The position includes administrative and programmatic responsibilities. The candidate will be prepared to work on both aspects enthusiastically and efficiently. The substantive role, contributing to the implementation of a two year project in Ethiopia “Strengthening Civil Societies’ Capacities to Contribute to the Transitional Justice Process in Ethiopia”, will entail a variety of tasks from collecting data to monitoring expenses.
The location of this position is in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This is a 2-year contract.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY
Under the supervision of the ICTJ Senior Consultant and in close coordination with ICTJ Brussels office and another ICTJ staff, the Program executive associate will:
· Prepare materials and logistics for project activities in coordination with ICTJ staff, national partners and other Ethiopian stakeholders as needed;
· Collect data related to project activities, assist in drafting interim and final narrative reports;
· Keeping track of project expenses, reconcile bank accounts, pay project invoices and consolidating financial reports in coordination with ICTJ Brussels office and Finance department and assist with other financial matters as necessary;
· Ensure day to day running of the project, including administrative, financial and fiscal matters in compliance with national legislation and in coordination with ICTJ Brussels office;
· Support the National Senior Consultant in carrying out policy initiatives and in liaising with key Ethiopian stakeholders on transitional justice, including government, civil society, and international actors;
· Assist the Senior Consultant in maintaining and creating contacts with ICTJ partners and civil society organizations representative of a variety of ethnic, political and social background in Addis Ababa, Oromia and Somali Region. Particular focus will be given to civil society organizations working on gender issues;
· Participate in seminars, conferences and meetings as requested;
· Assist in developing grant and budget proposals in coordination with the Development and Finance departments as necessary;
· Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· University degree in finance, administration, project management, public law, or relevant field.
· Three years relevant experience in project management, familiarity with international agency and/or NGO experience highly desirable.
· Ability to develop good interpersonal relationships with people from different ethnic and political background in Ethiopia, and of different gender.
· Proficient in the use of MS Office applications and internet use is required.
· Excellent oral and writing communication skills in English. Knowledge of local Ethiopian languages is a plus.
· Knowledge of transitional justice, reconciliation, human rights or similar processes would be an advantage.
· Strong analytical skills and ability to write clear reports.
· Ability to work as part of a team.
· Strong oral and written communication skills.
· Knowledge of the transitional justice, human rights, or peacebuilding, and previous employment in a related sector, is strongly desirable.
