Setting and ReportingThese positions are located in the Heating, Ventilation and A/C Technician (HVAC) Shop, Mechanical and Plumbing Unit, Plant Engineering Section (PES), Facilities and Commercial Activities (FCAS), Division of Administration (DOA), Department of Operational Support (DOS). The Department of Operational Support was established to provide operational advisory services to operating entities across the Secretariat, including other departments, offices away from headquarters, field missions, and regional commissions. The Facilities and Commercial Activities Service (FCAS) operates the Headquarters complex, striving to provide effective and efficient planning, management, maintenance and operation for all existing physical facilities and assets at the UN Headquarters, New York. FCAS also supports office and conference facilities, property management, travel and transportation services, archives and records management, mail and pouch operations, catering, giftshop and the United Nations Postal Administration. The incumbents report directly to the Foreman of the Shop and also report to the General Foreman of the Unit. ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the Foreman of the HVAC Shop the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities: - Maintains HVAC systems in the UN complex by servicing and overhauling pneumatic controls, steam valves and other associated equipment; repairs bearings and shafts, removes defective equipment, installs and tests new equipment. - Performs daily inspections of the temperature and humidity controls in the conference rooms and other areas of the General Assembly Building. Makes adjustments to ensure adequate air flow, replaces filters, belts, adjusts dampers and operates instruments for balancing air quantity, replaces angle valves and elbows in window units. - Investigates complaints, i.e. climate control, makes necessary adjustments and/or repairs including the removal and replacement of defective controls and other associated equipment. -Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Foreman of the HVAC Shop. -Learns the operation of the Chiller Plant and work towards obtaining Chiller Operator license. EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent Trade School diploma is required. Job - Specific QualificationPossession of EPA Universal Refrigerant License is required. Possession of an FDNY Q-01 Chiller Plant Operator's license (or similar) is desirable. Possession of OSHA Construction Safety certification (or similar) is desirable. Work ExperienceA minimum of 3 years of work experience in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) trade is required. The experience can be waived for applicants who hold an FDNY Q-01 Operating Engineer Certification. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
