The Organizational Setting
The Air Transport Bureau (ATB) carries out activities under ICAO’s Strategic Objectives for Security and Facilitation, Economic Development of Air Transport, and Environmental Protection. It is responsible for the provision of expert assistance required by the Assembly, Council, Air Transport Committee (ATC), Committee on Unlawful Interference (UIC), Committee on Joint Support of Air Navigation Services (JSC), Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP), the Ad Hoc Cybersecurity Coordination Committee (AHCCC) and the specialized conference, divisional, panel and working group meetings related to these three Strategic Objectives. The Bureau assists in developing, updating, and promoting the implementation of Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) in Annexes 9, 16 and 17, air transport policies and guidance (such as air transport regulation, economics of airports and air navigation services, and funding of aviation infrastructure) as well as the specifications for machine readable travel documents. The Bureau is also charged with the development of environment-related policies and measures and assistance for States to prepare and implement their action plans for CO2 emissions reduction activities. In addition, the Bureau implements the ICAO Comprehensive Aviation Security Strategy (ICASS), including the Universal Security Audit Programme (USAP) and assistance for States in rectifying deficiencies identified by the USAP, and also implements an ICAO Traveller Identification Programme (ICAO TRIP) Strategy. Furthermore, it maintains and provides access to civil aviation data/statistics and forecasts. Data on acts of unlawful interference and environmental protection (noise and emissions) are also maintained in the Bureau. The Bureau works with other offices of the Organization including Regional Offices, performs liaison and coordinates the above-mentioned issues with all the United Nations bodies and other international organizations, especially the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), World Customs Organization (WCO) and regional civil aviation organizations.
The Graphic Designer will serve, as part of Office of the Director ATB team, to develop and deliver designs for ICAO events, documents, guidance material, products, and services. He will work on a wide range of projects and media, using various software programmes to visualize and develop innovative graphic designs that meet organizational goals. Director ATB, provides general instructions on tasks as and when required
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Function 1 (incl. Expected results)
Develop ATB branding, achieving results such as:
Lead graphic and multimedia projects, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of communication materials; Research the identity, positioning and design of ATB products and services that are in need of branding initiatives; Work closely with professionals, policy developers, and technical experts to translate policy and procedural content into effective visual communications and awareness materials; Work independently as well as co-operatively with staff members of ATB and other internal stakeholders to stay within schedule of the design project; Design in collaboration with staff the monthly and annual newsletters; and Develop and maintain visual assets that promote the ATB brand, ensuring consistency across all digital and print materials, including documents, guidance material, brochures, reports, and digital content.Function 2 (incl. Provides graphic design and video support for promoting ATB products, documents and other initiatives, achieving results such as:
Create engaging and visually compelling graphics, illustrations, and layouts for aviation security and facilitation documents and guidance material, ensuring clarity and accessibility of complex policy content; Design covers for guidance material and relevant documents; Development of Infographics and Data Visualization to support policy communication, presentations, and reports; Create rich media to support events and social media platforms; Design promotional content for LinkedIn; and Produce and/or edit videos for ICAO platforms such as its public website, based on expert interviews, product promotions, and ICAO events.Function 3 (incl. Develops and designs marketing, sales, and promotional material for ICAO events, achieving results such as:
Design marketing materials for ATB-related events such as symposia, conferences, and workshops to drive participation and engagement; Provide graphic design support for the setup of the event website and online registration; Provide design support for the creation of email templates required to use email marketing automation for event promotions; Participate in meetings to ensure the smooth implementation of promotional activities for events; and Work on other activities pertaining to event branding and promotions.Function 3 (incl. Performs other related tasks, as assigned. Educational background
A first-level university degree in graphic design, fine arts, or in a related field, is required.
A second-level university degree in a related field is an asset. Additional professional certificates in design, web development, and video production are assets.
Professional experience and knowledgeEssential
5+ years of experience as a graphic designer or a communication specialist Superior working knowledge of design tools like Adobe Creative Suite Must have a good basic knowledge of basic web technologies and programming Knowledge of traditional and new marketing concepts, communication and graphic technologies Acute sense of good design and communication skills is essential Proficient in layout and production Ability to handle multiple assignments/projects at one time and meet or exceed deadlines in a fast-paced environment Takes ownership of tasks and drives projects through to completion on time Good judgment to proactively and independently solve problems and make decisions Capable of effective working relationships, understanding business requirements and translating them in clear communications Good spoken and written communications to present technical ideas to non-technical stakeholdersDesirable
• Knowledge of HTML5 and CSS;
• Knowledge of WordPress CMS;
• Experience using Adobe After Effects to produce motion graphic videos is an asset;
• Experience in an international organization is a plus.

Fluent reading, writing and speaking abilities in English.

A working knowledge of a second language of the Organization (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).
Additional InformationIt should be noted that this consultancy is to be filled for an initial period of eleven (11) months with a possibility of an extension. This is a full-time position.
Please note that the monthly rate for Band A varies from CAD 3,991 to CAD 5,172 per month. Employment income from UN agencies is tax exempt in Canada.
