Join NRC as a Global Specialist - Safe Programming (Maternity Cover)!

Are you passionate about embedding safety, dignity, and protection into humanitarian programming? In this impactful role, you'll be NRC’s go-to expert on Safe Programming - shaping global standards, tools, and guidance under the Safe and Inclusive Programming (SIP) framework. You’ll work closely with Country and Regional Offices to provide strategic advice, drive capacity building, support donor compliance, and help bring the SIP Action Plan to life. As a key member of our global team, you’ll collaborate across functions and regions to deliver high-quality, people-cantered programming where it’s needed most.

What you will do:

Some of your specific responsibilities include:

Country Office support:

Support already identified Country Offices (max 4-5) with Safe Programming priorities for 2025 and 2026. This may include remote coaching, in-country missions, etc.

Helpdesk support for SIP Action Plans, development and reporting:

Lead the finalisation of the digitalisation of SIP Action Plans. Lead the launch of the new digitalised SIP Action Plans, lead sensitisation/Q&A sessions with Country Office to facilitate the development of their Action Plans. Support the launch of new reporting approach on SIP Action plans, incl. sensitisation of COs on reporting requirements.

Helpdesk for themes associated with Safe Programming and general SIP training:

Support COs with referrals priority for 2025 (in close coordination with CFM), including working with CORE (new information management system). Finalise schedule of general Safe Programming and general SIP training remote training opportunities for 2026 (e.g. related to safety, avoid causing harm, referrals, SIP analysis, SIP basic training, training of trainers). Lead webinars in 2026, on for instance SIP basic training, Training of Trainers, SIP analysis, etc. in coordination with other team members in Community Engagement and Inclusion team.

Global development of guidance and training:

If needed, further development of referrals and CORE (new information management system). Further development of available package on SIP and local partners. Further development of SIP and Protection from Violence guidance and training.

What you will bring:

Minimum 6 years of relevant professional experience in a similar position within the humanitarian field. In-depth knowledge of and experience in Safe Programming. Proven experience in programme quality and strategic approaches to programme development. Experience of developing practical tools and resources. Experience of programme development and delivery. Experience of delivering learning and development as part of quality improvement and capacity building. Experience from different countries from across more than one NRC region. Extensive experience in programming in complex and volatile contexts. Willingness to travel to high-risk COs (including area offices and field offices). Willingness to keep HEAT training valid. Fluency in English, both written and verbal. Knowledge of Arabic, French or Spanish is considered an advantage. Understanding of and commitment to organisational learning, and the role and contribution of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning to quality management and development. Understanding of, and commitment to working collaboratively with technical and operational colleagues within a matrix structure, including capacity building. 

What we offer:

Duty station: Any country where NRC has an operational presence (Except Geneva & Washington DC), or through an Employer of Record (EoR) arrangement in France, Italy, Denmark, Finland, Spain, or the Netherlands.    Contract: 6 months.  Travel: Up to 20% Salary/benefits: grade 9 on NRC’s Resident salary scale, with accompanying terms and conditions.  NRC is an equal opportunities employer.
