ContextUNDP Regional Hub primarily provides UNDP Country Offices in the Latin American region with easy access to knowledge through high-quality advisory services and technical support based on global applied research and UNDP lessons learnt. The second priority is to provide regional thought leadership, build partnerships and promote regional capacity building, which allows UNDP, governments, and other development partners to identify, create and share knowledge relevant to solving urgent development challenges. The Gender Area of the UNDP Regional Hub leads the implementation of the corporate Gender Equality Strategy in the region through the implementation of regional projects and technical assistance to other areas and regional teams, the country offices and counterparts to mainstream the gender approach in their results and development strategies. The Team is working to achieve the following priorities: Promoting inclusive economies and women’s economic empowerment, contributing to the creation of more inclusive and egalitarian societies; generate nature-based, gender transformative and risk-informed development; and foster democratic governance with women’s participation and leadership. The Business for Gender Equality Programme consists of a portfolio aimed at engaging private sector companies towards the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and a gender equal sustainable development, its flagship initiative the Gender Equality Seal for Private Sector has a long trajectory of consolidation, transforming regulations, practices, and business processes to advance gender equality through the implementation of Gender Equality Management Systems or GEMS. Certified companies adopt equality as a business value, recognize the business opportunities it offers and embed gender equality inside their corporate strategy through the transformation of corporate regulations, business processes and organizational culture. In total 17 countries have adopted the national GES during the last decade in Latin America and Africa, and 14 of them are still active, impacting over 1.5 million female and male workers through more than 1,000 companies and more than 5,000 certified branches and business units across a varied array of industries including energy, telecommunications, agroindustry, and services. Support the Gender Team in the implementation of the Business for Gender Equality Programme and its flagship initiative the Gender Equality Seal for the Private Sector and will support the implementation of women’s economic empowerment strategies, including SME recovery. Specifically, s/he will provide support to country offices, regional programmes, government, companies, business partners and other key stakeholders in support of the process of globalisation of the programme, the consolidation of national certification programmes and the strengthening of the private sector and gender agenda.

Task DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of Regional Gender Team Leader, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: Programme support : • Pro-actively contribute to day-to-day project implementation and ensure conformity to expected results and workplans. • Support procurement processes of the Gender Area (identification of consultants/enterprises, development of TORs and follow-up on the hiring processes, etc.) • Support planning and fielding of missions, for assessment and programmatic design, support and follow-up at country level as required. Partnerships and Resource Mobilization • Support the organization of business forums and other key advocacy spaces to position the gender and private sector agenda, including but not limited to, conceptual, logistic and administrative support. • Identify national, regional, and international events, forums, and/or conferences related to business sustainability that involve private sector participation, where UNDP can engage – either virtually or in person – by sharing targeted interventions and initiatives tailored to their specific needs. • Support the consolidation of the communities of practice of the Gender Equality Seal for private sector. • Support the Gender Team in mobilization of resources from different partners. • Support the development of tailored sponsorship packages for private sector actors to mobilize resources. • Identify public funding opportunities launched by international donors or governments that focus on gender, sustainability, and/or the private sector where UNDP can apply for funding by offering tailored support aligned with the goals of each initiative. • Identify private sector companies in the region that may be interested in participating and investing financial resources in the Gender Equality Seal for the Private Sector. • Support the identification of organizations and external actors that work in initiatives that promote gender equality in the workplace and within private sector companies and analyse how these initiatives align with or differ from the Gender Equality Seal for the Private Sector. • Support the identification of public and private organizations, as well as external actors, that implement methodologies aimed at strengthening the competitiveness, sustainability, and resilience of SMEs in the region, and analyse the components they use. • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Living conditions and remarksPanama offers a relatively low cost of living, modern infrastructure, and good healthcare services. The climate is warm and humid throughout the year, with an average temperature of 27° C. The rainy season lasts from May to December, with sudden rain and thunderstorms expected. The Balboa is the national currency, equivalent to the U.S. Dollar (1 Balboa = 1 USD), and Panama’s coins are equivalent in size and value to those of the United States. All credit cards are accepted. Sanitary conditions in Panama are generally good, but it’s recommended to be up to date on routine vaccines and consider additional vaccinations for diseases like hepatitis A and yellow fever. Security in Panama is currently at a Low Security Level; however, it’s advisable to exercise caution by not wearing jewelry in crowded, dark or lonely places and carry only the necessary cash, credit card and ID card.
