Program Overview

Gender Equality, Disability & Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Senior Specialist position at WRI Indonesia will spearhead inclusive technical, scientific, research, engagement, and resource mobilization efforts across programs to ensure the effective implementation of GEDSI interventions in the country. Externally, this role will lead initiatives to ensure that WRI Indonesia's stakeholders, including government institutions, civil society, the private sector, the media, and other relevant actors, duly consider GEDSI concerns.

Collaborating with key project/program managers and program directors under the supervision of Head of PMEL and Managing for Results and Managing Director, The GEDSI Senior Specialist is expected to develop and enhance strategic vision for gender mainstreaming in all of WRI Indonesia's programming, providing coordination and technical and policy advisory support on GEDSI, and ensuring that GEDSI aspects maintain their relevance and prominence across programs and initiatives at WRI Indonesia.

Job Highlight

As an organization with 10 years of project implementation experience throughout Indonesia, working at various levels of government and within different layers of society, there is an urgent need for WRI Indonesia to create, own, and mainstream its unique approach to GEDSI. Therefore, the GEDSI Senior Specialist will be responsible for developing a unique approach to solving GEDSI issues across programs and initiatives by introducing a tailored and suitable GEDSI approach as this is crucial to integrate and advance WRI Indonesia’s distinctive blend of climate transition and decarbonization strategy while ensuring the balance of the three key elements of our vision: people, climate, and nature.

This position is also served as the focal person to lead and instill the GEDSI philosophy within the organization by working collaboratively with the Human Resources Department and other teams to embed GEDSI principles into all aspects of WRI Indonesia’s work. This includes supporting training, capacity building, developing engagement strategies, ensuring inclusivity in all activities, monitor and ensure that gender and equity goals are met across all projects.

The GEDSI Senior Specialist will not be tasked with managing any specific projects; instead, will provide GEDSI support to all programs and initiatives in a matrix modality. Based in Jakarta with office-flex working arrangement, the role may require to do travel both domestic and international, as needed.

What You Will Do

Technical Support and Research (50%)

  • Capture, develop, standardize, and share tools, resources, and processes that promote GEDSI aspects across program and initiatives.
  • Lead the collection of GEDSI indicators; support the MEL team/expert in collecting GEDSI data and in developing GEDSI-related learning questions and other resources/methods.
  • Act as a technical resource for integrating GEDSI approaches across all components of the project.
  • Support the Managing Director, Program Directors, and Head of PMEL and MfR in the development of programmatic GEDSI’s analysis and GEDSI’s strategy.
  • Provide GEDSI-related support and technical oversight in the development of key project deliverables.
  • Advise teams on implementation of GEDSI approaches.
  • Identify GEDSI-related learning needs including developing necessary learning procedures and build capacity of project staff.
  • Support the capture and dissemination of GEDSI-related lessons learned and leading practices.
  • Support research team by providing input on GEDSI aspect of the research
  • Promote the project’s GEDSI work and participate/present at meetings and events as required

    Research and Supervision (30%)

    • Lead and/or support GEDSI research across relevant projects
    • Produce knowledge products that focus or mainstream GEDSI principle and approaches
    • Supervise junior and/or young research analyst/assistant on GEDSI approach and implementation.

      Fundraising (20%)

      • Coordinate, develop, and maintain regular outreach and communications with current and prospective program donors and partners.
      • Contribute to the development of concept notes, proposals, proposal budgets, and other related materials as necessary to engage prospects and secure funding.
      • Engage in direct fundraising activities, including proposal pitches, meetings, and donor cultivation efforts. Cultivate relationships with existing and potential donors, foundations, government agencies, and corporate sponsors to secure funding for the organization's projects and initiatives.

        What You Will Need

        • Bachelor's degree in gender studies, international development, social sciences, development studies, public policy, human rights, or other related fields or work experience equivalent. A master's degree is a plus.
        • Minimum 8 (eight) years of full-time work experience in gender, equity and development, training, project monitoring and evaluation, development of tools/guidance documents
        • Experience in mainstreaming gender and equity into technical programs including conducting gender analysis
        • Experience in data analysis and monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL), supported with strong problem-solving skills.
        • Experience in conducting high-level desk research, and writing reports.
        • Experience in designing and implementing GEDSI programs or initiatives. or partnership development within the non-profit or environmental sector.
        • In-depth knowledge of gender equality, diversity, and social inclusion issues.
        • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey the organization's mission and impact to diverse audiences.
        • Strong networking and relationship-building abilities.
        • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
        • Proficiency in English and Indonesian languages, both written and verbal

          Contract Arrangement

          Full-time with fixed-term employment agreement with 3 (three) months of consultancy contract apply before the fixed-term employment agreement started.

            Must have authorization to work in Indonesia to be eligible for this position.

            Final candidates might be required to take a writing test and to produce two writing samples when needed.
