Photographer for 2024 NANSEN
These TORs are for purpose of HR and integrity clearance of the photographer. Specific TORS will be shared with the photographer upon full confirmation of the mission.
General Background of Project or Assignment, Operational Context:
The Global Communications Service relies upon quality professional photography to communicate UNHCR’s brand and messages in products across the organization’s platforms, including the UNHCR global website, global and senior leader social media accounts, UNHCR’s emergency funding appeals and flagship publications, Global Trends, Global Appeals etc. Quality professional images are essential to promote understanding of UNHCR’s work and illustrate the organization’s messages. Professional photographs are of particular importance to raise funds and public awareness and are key to the organization’s advocacy goals. To that end, UNHCR would like to engage professional photographer name of photographer to profile the winner of the 2024 UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award. The photographer will create visually striking imagery that tells the story of the winner’s life and work and its impact on the refugee community. They will also document the displacement situation in the country in which the Nansen winner resides along with images that depict the work of UNHCR on the ground. The photographer will be accompanied by UNHCR colleagues from the relevant operation and a multimedia team including a producer, videographer, writer and social media content creator.
Specific TORs will be shared with the photographer upon confirmation of assignment dates, location and fees. These TORs are to be used for HR and SEA clearances.

During official mission, the photographer will be enrolled with Cigna health insurance which is maintained by UNHCR. The full cost of the insurance will be covered by UNHCR.
Purpose and Scope of Assignment:
Concise and detailed description of activities, including measurable outputs and delivery dates, impact indicators (what qualitative and quantitative results would be achieved upon completion of individual contract), performance indicators (timelines, value of the service rendered in relation to the cost, timeliness) and work plan:
· To cover the life and work of the 2024 UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award winner, name.
· To cover UNHCR’s presence and delivery of humanitarian assistance, and solutions, to support refugees, Internally Displaced People, stateless and host communities in the name of location.
· To produce high-quality photographs that can be used on UNHCR’s global, regional and country platforms for advocacy and fundraising.
· To produce high-quality photographs that can be used distributed to global media organisations and UNHCR partners.
· Shoot compelling colour photographs that illustrate the displacement situation and UNHCR’s messages and activities.
· Deliver professional level post-production and captions for photos to the specifications of the Photographer’s Guidelines and file the best edit of photos to Refugees Media.
· Interview displaced people and include their personal details and quotes in metadata and captions.
· Name every person in every photo.
· Ensure consent forms are filed for every person or family who appears in a photo portrait. Everyone in every photo where we see their face needs a consent form. If we don’t see the face but you use their story, we need a consent form.
· Meet frequent tight deadlines.
· Work collaboratively and effectively as part of a multimedia content team and with UNHCR colleagues in the operation.
· The photographer will need to keep the Photo Unit informed of their movements and plans and filing.

Field of expertise, competencies: Photojournalism
Required: Experience in photojournalism
Desirable: Senior Level Professional
Minimum years of work experience (NOTE: candidates with less years of experience cannot be short-listed or recommended):

EVALUATION, MONITORING, SUPERVISION
Monitoring and Progress Controls
(Measures put in place to ensure the quality of work the individual contract holder delivers, e.g. report requirements, periodicity, format, deadlines, performance indicators, milestone discussions, survey completed, data collected, workshop conducted, research documents produced specify etc.)
The photographer will need to file the best, large edit of the images as soon as possible. These must be color corrected files with full metadata that include well-written, detailed captions and reporting added before uploads to UNHCR’s multimedia platform, Refugees Media. Please do not file duplicates. We will provide enough post-production days for you to complete this job and provide a well-organised, neat package. All final material due close of business ASAP. Exact date to be noted on the final TORs.
