Work LocationKuwait Expected duration6 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground: The SDG Stories Team was established by ESCWA’s Executive Secretary to mainstream the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among young persons in the Arab region by using the “ESCWA Stories” comic book as an educational tool. The team visits educational institutions in Lebanon, Jordan and Kuwait, interacts with students and teachers, and organizes activities and events for the promotion of the comic book and its objectives. Against this background, the SDG Stories Team is seeking the services of a designated national focal point to support and facilitate the work of the SDG Stories Team in Kuwait. Duties and Responsibilities: - Acting as focal point between ESCWA and the designated beneficiary schools in Kuwait, in support of the “SDG Stories” Initiative. - Facilitating the process of identifying target schools in Kuwait to take part in the SDG Stories Initiative for the academic year 2024-2025. - Advising schools and national stakeholders in Kuwait on the adoption and implementation of activities related to the SDGs. - Facilitating the flow of information between ESCWA and the designated beneficiary schools in Kuwait. - Participating with the SDG Stories Team in their field visits to beneficiary schools in Kuwait. - Assisting the SDG Stories Team in the planning and organization of events relevant to the initiative, including capacity building sessions for teachers, and the “SDG Stories Day – Kuwait” (date to be determined). - Exchanging expertise with the SDG Stories Team and facilitating cooperation and partnership. - Contributing to the promotion of the SDGs, intergenerational dialogue, good citizenship and global leadership among teachers, staff and students participating in the SDG Stories Initiative. Qualifications/special skillsA recognized first level university degree in education, sociology, arts or sciences is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. At least 10 years of proven work experience with local and international schools, preferably in Kuwait, is required. Working on extra-curricular projects and activities related to education, science and culture is highly desirable. Experience with NGOs such as the UN is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in Arabic is required. Knowledge of English is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
