About this position

The IDB and the Connectivity Markets and Finance Division in the Institutions for Development Sector (IFD) has been leading the international agenda on innovative financial instruments for sustainability and, in particular, on the design of credit enhancement strategies to facilitate critical private sector mobilization to support countries to meet their sustainable objectives.

We are looking for a financial sector expert with strong track record on the design and implementation of sovereign guarantees and innovative financial structures in the areas of climate, infrastructure finance and SME financing.

Our Division works to strengthen the capacity of the public financial sector to mobilize resources and catalyze capital for development. We focus on effective capital market development and innovative financial structuring and solutions to facilitate private investment and ensure inclusive and sustainable development. The design and application of these financial solutions are conducted jointly, in close collaboration, with other IDB divisions, ensuring a holistic approach that leverages and combines financial and sector specific expertise.

What you’ll do

Lead and co-lead all activities described below in close collaboration with different sectors of the IDB, ensuring effective combination of financial and sector specific expertise. Lead or participate in the identification, preparation, and delivery of innovative financial structures in support to the development of the LAC Region. Lead or participate in the design and implementation of IDB sovereign guarantees and other risk mitigation structures to foster private sector mobilization across strategic sectors. Lead or participate in the execution of loan and technical assistance programs, focusing on achieving development effectiveness and capturing lessons learned for the design of future operations. Design or participate in the execution of technical assistance and investment grant programs to support the public financial sector in the LAC Region. Engage in technical dialogue with government authorities, providing analytical and advisory services. Develop high level policy dialogue, knowledge exchange effort to strengthen strategic partnerships with key development stakeholders in the Region.

What you’ll need

Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Finance, Public Affairs, Engineering, Mathematics, or other relevant field to the responsibilities of the role. Experience: At least 8 years of relevant work experience in finance, economics, or related fields from the public and/or private financial sector, or multilateral organizations, mainly focused on the design and/or execution of financial public sector operations and project management in Latin America and the Caribbean. Proven track record on structuring operations and expertise on the use of guarantees, guarantee funds and other structures in the areas of climate, infrastructure finance and SME financing. Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Requirements

Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents. Type of contract and duration

International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement. If we identify candidates in the region you will be working under a national staff contract.
