The Monetary and Capital Markets Department (MCM) has a vacancy in its Central Banking Operations Division (MCMCO) for a Financial Sector Expert/Senior Financial Sector Expert. The vacancy is for a three-year term appointment, in accordance with the Fund’s categories of employment.
MCMCO division covers a broad range of areas including the implementation of monetary and exchange rate policies, lender of last resort, collateral frameworks, financial market development, international reserves management, central bank accounting, governance, strategic planning, risk management, and currency issuance. The division works closely other MCM divisions (financial crisis, financial regulation, monetary and macroprudential policies, and debt management) and other IMF departments and country authorities delivering policy analysis, technical assistance, and surveillance products, including the IMF's Global Financial Stability Report and the Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP).
This position is focused on contributing to the analytical work that underpins the advice provided by MCMCO. The key responsibilities are to deliver technical assistance, undertake quantitative analyses to support of the division’s analytical and capacity development agenda, as well as to develop policy positions. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to participate in technical assistance, FSAP, and Article IV consultation missions.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have an advanced university degree in econometrics, statistics or modelling, and several relevant publications and at least four years of relevant professional experience. He/she should have an excellent command of quantitative methods, including the following.
Excellent command of advanced econometrics, such as non-stationary time series models, Bayesian computation, conditional heteroskedasticity forecasting etc.
Knowledge of machine learning is highly desirable, including model estimation and evaluation in classification and regression tasks.
Excellent command of quantitative methods and programming languages such as Python, MatLab, R, and VBA.
Strong understanding of Large Language Model (LLM) and experience in executing projects related to natural language processing such as NLTK, SpaCy, Bert, and/or RoBERTa.
Experience in a central bank or in the financial sector is a plus. The candidate should also have demonstrated sound policy judgment; analytical and quantitative skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; and a capacity to meet tight deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills and team spirit are required. In addition to English, working knowledge of French or Spanish would be highly desirable.
Candidates shortlisted for the position will undertake a quantitative test and an interview as part of the selection process.
