About this position

IDB Lab is looking for a dynamic, results-oriented, and client-focused risk management consultant. As a risk management consultant, you will provide support on risk management activities for IDB Lab operations, as well as for the IDB Lab as an entity. The main focus of the assignment will be financial risk management of IDB Lab Operations.

What you’ll do:

· Develop and implement a financial risk framework for IDB Lab’s operations by identifying and measuring risks at the product, client and sector level among others, including specific methodologies and processes for measuring risk related to venture capital investments and portfolio.

· Provide expertise and technical advice in the identification, analysis, and management of financial risks present in IDB Lab’s operations. The definition and implementation of this framework should be coordinated with the Portfolio Tribe Team and embedded in the Portfolio Risk Management tools and guidelines.

· Analyze our investment portfolios (direct equity investments, venture capital funds, lending products as well as contingent grants) to identify high financial and operational risks. Provide support, maintenance, and updates to the operation risk framework already in place, and while enhancing, designing, and expanding the financial risk framework.

· Develop comprehensive strategies for mitigating identified risks, safeguarding IDB Lab’s Portfolio quality, and supporting our mission.

· Analyze IDBG’s existing risk policies and private sector practices to assess the appropriate level of alignment with IDB Lab’s risk tolerance and business practices.

· Review existing IDB Lab operational framework and update existent risk management tools (governance documents, project risk methodologies, project, and entity risk appetite), if needed and requested, as well as to coordinate quarterly Risk Management Committee meetings.

· Regarding the IDB Lab operational framework, gather feedback from specialists about adequateness in day-to-day operational implementation and identify areas for enhancement.

· Develop an implementation strategy and workflow to integrate existing risk frameworks in areas of non-financial, integrity and ESG.

· Prepare comprehensive reports that clearly communicate risk assessment results, mitigation strategies, and recommendations to stakeholders within the Integrated Risk Management Framework (IRMF).

· Be involved in the maintenance, improvement, and evolution of the risk monitoring tool in Salesforce and the associated dashboard. This will be done in coordination with the Digitribe.

What you’ll need:

· Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in finance, risk management or related field. Certifications such as FRM (Financial Risk Manager) or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) are highly desirable.

· Experience: At least 7 years of professional experience in financial risk management, with a significant focus on direct equity investments, venture capital funds, and lending risks. Demonstrated experience working in or with markets in Latin America and the Caribbean. Proven track record in implementing or enhancing Integrated Risk Management Frameworks, particularly in the context of project-based investment risk management.

· Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is a plus.

· Exceptional skills in credit analysis and financial risk. Ability to interpret complex financial data and derive insightful conclusions.

· Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex financial and risk management concepts to a diverse audience. Proficiency in preparing and delivering formal presentations to stakeholders.

· Ability to think strategically and holistically about risk factors and financial performance, contributing to the firm's broader mission and objectives.

· Advanced user of financial software tools and applications, including risk assessment and financial modeling platforms.

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, showing a collaborative mindset and contributing to a positive work environment.

· Solid experience in MS products (especially Excel) and other systems such as Tableau or Power BI desirable.

· Understanding of global financial risk management standards and practices, particularly as they relate to equity investments, venture capital, and lending in emerging markets.

Requirements:

· Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.

· Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
