Setting and ReportingOn 29 May 1948, the United Nations Security Council, in its resolution 50 (1948) called for a cessation of hostilities in Palestine and established the first peacekeeping mission headed by a UN Mediator with the assistance of a group of military observers to be known as the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO). UNTSO is mandated to observe and maintain the unconditional ceasefires and assist the parties to the 1949 Armistice Agreements in the supervision of the application and observance of the terms of those Agreements. UNTSO’s mandate covers five countries, including Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. This position is located in the Security Section at UNTSO Headquarters, Jerusalem. The Field Security Assistant at the GS-3 level reports to the Guard Force Supervisor under the overall supervision of the Chief Security Officer / Deputy Chief Security Officer. ResponsibilitiesUnder the overall direction of the Chief Security Officer/ Deputy Chief Security Officer, the direct supervision of the Guard Force Supervisor and within the limits of delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: • Screens all personnel, packages and vehicles entering the UN complex to ensure authorized access. • Issue the appropriate ID card to visitors and contractors/workers. • Provides continuous coverage of cameras, telephone and radio communications systems. • In the event of emergencies and incidents, alert relevant units and under the direct supervision of the Team Leader or Guard Force Supervisor, respond to the location of the incident. • Maintains logs and initiates chronological logs of events during emergency situations. • Provides information and directions to all persons associated with the organization. • Controls pedestrian and vehicular traffic. • Alerts for any potential or actual breaches of security and any disturbances or unusual activity and reports these • immediately. • Ensures that all UN property being carried from the complex is checked for appropriate documentation. • Performs regular shift duties (to include afternoons, mornings and nights) • Provides support to SIOC-ops whenever required. • Performs any other duties as may be required and so assigned by the Guard Force Supervisor, Deputy Chief Security Officer and/or Chief Security Officer or his/her designated official. Job - Specific QualificationA valid driver’s license in Israel and West Bank is required (attach a copy of your license). The ability to drive manual shift vehicles is desirable. Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) is required. Knowledge and understanding of Guard Force processes is desirable. Work ExperienceA minimum of two (02) years of progressively responsible experience in the military, police, with a local security organization, or other security functions is required. A minimum of one (1) year experience in security access control procedures is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
