Lifting Hands International is looking for Female Friendly Space (FFS) Facilitators in Greece

About Us

Lifting Hands International operates a community center in Serres, a small city about an hour from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. We work with a population of 1000+ refugees & asylum seekers at the local camps, providing regular aid distributions and a range of psychosocial support programs.

Program Description

The Female Friendly Space is a safe place for women to take a break from house and family responsibilities, re-focus on themselves by engaging in activities and connect with one another. It is open for four hours in the afternoon, from Wednesday to Sunday. We have activities that respond to gender sensitivities such as crochet and spa as well as workshops on gender related issues.

Main Responsibilities

  • Making our service user feel safe and welcome with in our space
  • Engaging with our service users, assisting with the lending of materials
  • Helping with the planning and preparation of activities, including purchasing the relevant materials
  • Assisting with the facilitation of daily program activities
  • Attending weekly team and program meetings
  • Assisting the manager in introducing new volunteers to the space
  • Contributing ideas, suggestions and skills to the Female Friendly Space

Essential Criteria

  • Passion for building communities and safe spaces for women
  • Enthusiasm for working with women and women’s rights
  • Kindness towards vulnerable women, a positive attitude and an open mind
  • Ability to engage with those from different backgrounds, even when a language barrier is present
  • Some experience, knowledge or willingness to learn of gender-related issues in a refugee context
  • Quick thinker, proactive, motivated, open-minded, able to work in a fast-paced working environment, positive and adaptable to work with limited shared language with program participants
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Professional attitude, able to remain calm under pressure
  • Able to work well in a large, multicultural team
  • Fluent English speaker

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge or motivation to learn about trauma informed approach
  • Understanding of the implementation of psychosocial support programs
  • Potential to stay on the team for at least 2 months
  • Previous experience working with refugees, forcibly displaced persons, or at-risk youth
  • Skills such as arts and crafts, and sewing

We offer

  • Five-day work week + full week break after every 6 weeks of work
  • Monthly reimbursement ( 100 euros per month after the fourth month)
  • Free accommodation on stays over 6 months, only 50 euros per month for those staying three or more months.
  • 5 euros per night for stays less than 3 months
