About this position:

The Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance Division (DSP/SEG) of IDB Invest is seeking an experienced and highly motivated environmental and social consultant to provide technical support to IDB Lab so that its financed operations are environmentally and socially sustainable and comply with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Environmental and Social Policy Framework (ESPF).

The consultant will also provide IDB Lab and its clients with guidance on environmental and social issues, participate in project teams, and deliver technical input on environmental and social (E&S) aspects.

What you’ll do:

The selected candidate will perform, among other, the following main activities:

  • Review of the IDB Lab operations (technical cooperation projects, loans, and equity investment proposals), focusing on the environmental and social (E&S) and health and safety (ESHS) aspects.
  • Identify potential E&S risks and impacts that IDB Lab operations may generate.
  • Identify any compliance gap that IDB Lab proposed operations may have with respect to IDB's ESPF.
  • Propose specific actions, deliverables, and compliance dates to close any compliance gap in form of an Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP).
  • Provide technical advice IDB Lab and its clients on how to implement corresponding actions to pursue compliance with the ESPF.
  • As needed, perform the E&S monitoring of IDB Lab existing projects, including the supervision of activities performed by the independent E&S consultants hired by IDB Lab to support its clients in the implementation of the ESAP.

    What you'll need:

    • Education: You hold a master’s degree in engineering, environmental management, environmental science, or related field.
    • Experience: You have at least five (5) years of working professional experience in environmental management, environmental and social impact assessments, environmental and social monitoring, environmental and social due diligence, and execution and control of private-sector projects, with a demonstrated track record in the assessment and management of E&S impacts in the agribusiness and manufacturing sectors, both in direct investment and through financial intermediaries.
    • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

      Requirements:

    • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

      Type of contract and duration:

    • Type of contract: Consultant Full-Time.
    • Length of contract: 12 months.
    • Location: On site.
