At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern
Introduction
Are you an Engineer interested in the challenges of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) production techniques for the development of Micro-Pattern Gas Detectors (MPGD) for particle physics experiments? This hands-on role involves the design of detectors and requires a practical approach to problem-solving. The ideal candidate will also have proven experience in team management, demonstrating the ability to lead and inspire a team of technical engineers and technicians. If you are passionate about groundbreaking research and thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment, we would love to hear from you!
You will join:
The Experimental Physics (EP) Department, which carries out basic research in the field of experimental particle physics in a stimulating scientific atmosphere, standing as an important reference for the physics community. It also contributes to the education and training of young scientists. The Detector Technologies (DT) group, participating in the development, construction, operation and maintenance of particle detectors and their technical infrastructure for the LHC experiments and several other experiments at CERN.The EP-DT Micro-Pattern Technologies (MPT) workshop carries out the full design and production of micro-pattern gaseous detectors such as GEM detectors and MicroMegas. The service also produces PCBs and flex-cables for special applications.Functions
As Engineer for the MPT workshop, initially you will:
Join a team of experts to ensure the smooth operation of MPT Workshop,Together with the MPT Workshop Leader, co-chair meetings with experts to discuss maintenance, operation, and consolidation efforts,Contribute to design activities for future gaseous detector projects, both for CERN and for the international community,Participate in Research and Development of technologies for MPGD detector and associated technologies, in participating to the production of novel detectors,Give advice to the workshop users on all the available technologies,Supervise contractor activities.Master's degree or PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of electronics, or material science, or applied physics or a related field.
