  Context

IOM operates Five Accommodation Centers for Unaccompanied Minors (Shelters) providing accommodation and access to services for Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC). Besides accommodation, the following services are provided to the beneficiaries: addressing basic needs, catering, hygiene, legal counselling, and information about life opportunities in Greece, interpretation, psychosocial support, medical support, Greek learning programs, learning support, organization of intercultural activities, work and career guidance. 

Under the overall supervision of the Project Coordinator or their designate and the direct supervision of the Shelter Coordinator, the successful candidate will support in the implementation educational programs and the improvement of educational activities.

  1. Identify the educational level of each accommodated minor and prepare a relevant individual educational plan, which is part of the Individual Action Plan.
  2. Register children to school and monitor the minors' attendance in formal education in cooperation with the Legal Guardian.
  3. Plan and implement educational programs and remedial teaching, giving priority to the teaching of the Greek language with a minimum of 6 hours per week.
  4. Ensure the inclusion of minors in vocational training programs.
  5. Develop activities for the creative use of minors' free time.
  6. Plan and implement of educational excursions and recreational programs.
  7. Keep individual records, including daily observations and information about activities.
  8. Map all existing activities organized at the local level and establish synergies with private or local actors in order to enroll children.
  9. Cooperate with other actors operating in the community for any daily activities that could be offered to the children.
  10. Assist and/or instruct children in health/hygiene and personal habits.
  11. Perform such other duties as may be assigned. Education
    • University degree in Education, Pedagogy, or a related field from an accredited academic institution corresponding to teachers of all specialties, a subject that meets the age and needs of minors. At least one year of relevant professional experience is desirable. Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.   Experience
      • At least one year of relevant professional experience is desirable;
      • Experience in developing and delivering life skills, educational, skills training programs to children;
      • Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment preferred. Skills
        • Computer literacy in standard software applications (MS Office, etc);
        • Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles;
        • Willingness to work in day shifts and to be on call in night shifts, during holidays and weekends;
        • Valid driver’s license with at least five years driving experience an advantage. Languages
          • Fluency in English and Greek (written and oral) is required. IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
