    Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationship

    The position of Economist is assigned to the Macroeconomics Research Division (ERMR) within the Economic Research and Development Impact Department (ERDI). You will be based at our Headquarters in Manila, Philippines and relocation is required. All reasonable relocation expenses will be covered.

    You will report to Director, ERMR and will oversee junior team members.

    Your Role
    As an Economist, you will produce analytical work on policy-relevant issues of strategic interest to ADB's developing members, contributing to a wide range of macroeconomic, microeconomic, financial, and development issues. You will contribute to the preparation and dissemination of research outputs and publications, including ADB's flagship publication, the Asian Development Outlook (ADO) and other ERDI reports.

    You will:

    Economic Research and Analytical Support

  • Undertake applied research on macroeconomics, finance, and development with a focus on policy-relevant implications for ADB developing members.

Develop and use novel datasets and innovative techniques to analyze macroeconomic issues, including in the context of ADO's regional outlook and analytical chapters.

Participate in preparing the ADO and contribute to other ERDI outputs.

Provide analytical support to ADB teams in areas of research expertise.

Knowledge Sharing

Undertake collaborative research with specialists in a global network of knowledge institutions and in other ADB departments.

Contribute to the dissemination of the ADO and ADB knowledge outputs and publications.

Publish research in reputable international, peer-review journals.

Support capacity-building work of ERDI by undertaking dissemination, networking, and capacity building activities, including with partner institutions and with other ADB knowledge and operations departments.

Contribute to relevant internal and external training and conferences and other activities for advocacy, dissemination and knowledge building.

Staff management

Provide leadership and support to reporting staff and ensure the quality of their work.

Manage the performance of teams and individuals, providing clear direction and regular monitoring and feedback on performance and ensure ongoing learning and development.

Qualifications

You will need:

PhD in Economics or related fields, with strong background in macroeconomics, development, and/or econometric analysis.

At least 6 years of relevant professional experience with demonstrated experience conducting independent research, including international experience in several countries. Evidence of high-quality research output and record of publications in international peer-reviewed professional journals.

Technical knowledge, analytical, and conceptual skills in economics.

Understanding of ADB or similar multilateral development bank's institutional context, strategies, priorities, and objectives.

Written and verbal proficiency in English.

Additional Information

This appointment is open to internal and external applicants.

This is a fixed-term appointment for an initial fixed period of 3 years. At the end of the initial period, this appointment may, at the option of ADB, be extended once for up to 2 years, converted to a regular appointment, or ended on its expiration date. This decision will be made in the overall interest of ADB that: (a) it will require Staff's particular blend of skills and experience in the foreseeable future; and (b) Staff's performance is satisfactory and they are suitable for further employment.
