Title: Internship

Contract Type: Internship
Organizational context
UNHCR is a global organization dedicated to save lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, people displaced from their communities and stateless people. Every year, millions of men, women and children are forced to leave their homes to escape conflict and persecution. UNHCR staff are on the ground in 130 countries, using their expertise to protect and care for millions of people.
The position
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has as its mandate international protection and the search for durable solutions for refugees and stateless persons.
In Mexico, UNHCR works by providing technical advice on asylum and refugee status determination, as well as their respective procedures. It also works with relevant Mexican authorities to identify persons in need of international protection, particularly in the identification and protection of special groups such as unaccompanied or separated refugee children and adolescents, victims of human trafficking, as well as stateless persons.
In conjunction with Mexican civil society organizations, UNHCR also supports the strengthening of mechanisms and initiatives that promote and facilitate the integration of refugees and stateless persons in Mexico.
In recent years, UNHCR has identified an increase in the number of asylum seekers from Northern Central America, Venezuela, Cuba and Haiti. One of the main challenges in the protection of refugees in Latin America is the lack of information on the right to apply for protection as a refugee, how to access the information on the right to request protection as a refugee, how to access the procedure, as well as information for their integration in the country and the institutions that can support them.
To address this challenge, UNHCR from the area of Durable Solutions has developed a strategy oriented towards the inclusion of the refugee population in public programs and the formal labor market. UNHCR works in close coordination with government authorities, civil society organizations and other actors to strengthen this strategy.

• Review the rules of operation of public programs.
