Organizational Setting
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has reinforced its presence in Ukraine by signing an agreement with the Government to set up a Project Office that will facilitate and expand the provision of technical and humanitarian assistance to the country’s most vulnerable communities, especially in rural areas.
Ukraine joined FAO in 2003 and since 2015 the Organization has been operating in two strategic directions: emergency humanitarian response in conflict-affected oblasts and agricultural development across the whole country. Following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, FAO has scaled up its activities in the country to support agricultural production and food systems with the aim of protecting the food security of vulnerable households and communities across Ukraine.
This role is based full-time in Odesa, Ukraine.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of the Designated Responsible Officer, the direct supervision of the Operations Officer, and
in close coordination with relevant administrative, programme, and operations colleagues in all FAO Ukraine offices.
Technical Focus
The driver is responsible for driving the Office personnel of the FAO Offices in Ukraine, principally in Odesa, however specific requirements outside of Odesa may occasionally be required. He/she ensures the safety, technical soundness and conformity of vehicle assigned.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Drive the FAO personnel and official country visitors on official local missions, as necessary.
• Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, transportation/vehicle expenditures, repairs, etc.
• Ensures day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, etc.; ensures that the assigned vehicle has sufficient gas and is always ready for use; perform minor repairs and timely arrange for any other repairs necessary to keep the car safe and technically sound, maintain the vehicle in clean conditions.
• Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts.
• Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident; Ensures that in that case all organizational and local country rules, security measures and protocols of FAO and UNDSS related to driving and road safety are followed correctly.
• Collect and deliver mail, documents, pouches, small procurements, and other items from and to the field office; go to the post office, airport, government agencies, project sites to take and deliver items and communications; keep records as required;
• When needed, assist the Field Office staff in performing simple clerical duties such as making and answering telephone calls, making photocopies, keeping records, etc.
• Perform other related duties as requested.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• Secondary education completed
• Valid Ukrainian driver’s license (B, C1, or C category)
• At least 3 years’ work experience as a driver, preferably with UN/NGO
• Working knowledge/Fluency (Level C or native) of Russian and Ukrainian
• National of Ukraine.
