The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an intergovernmental organisation committed to advancing security of energy supply, economic growth and environmental sustainability through energy policy co-operation. The IEA operates as an autonomous body within the framework of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Both the OECD and the IEA seek opportunities to work with an increasing number of non-members of growing importance to the world economy.

The chosen candidate will be part of a dynamic team of enthusiastic professionals in the IEA’s Energy Technology Policy (ETP) Division. The division analyses possible future roles for new and innovative clean energy technologies and their supply chains within the energy sector, spanning from end-use sector applications to the provision of low-emissions fuels such as hydrogen, and the required distribution infrastructure.

The ETP team is looking for a Data Visualisation Designer to develop new and innovative data-driven content, including in particular charts and infographics in reports, and, in collaboration with IEA’s Communications and Digital Office (CDO), interactive charts and infographics for the IEA website and social networks. S/he will create data storytelling content, working closely with ETP analysts to make energy data more accessible and easier to understand. The Data Visualisation Designer will have strong data literacy, data-gathering, and programming skills, and a keen interest in energy or other closely related scientific topics.

Job Description

Main Responsibilities

Work with the ETP team to come up with compelling visualisation of data and analytical findings for inclusion in reports.Work with the ETP team to develop visuals for inclusion in PowerPoint presentations, as well related animations.Contribute to the design, development and update of data-based visuals for use on the IEA website.Produce web and print-ready visuals, animations, gifs, etc., for use on the website, social channels, and print products.Research and experiment with new data visualisation tools.Co-ordinate usability tests of data visualisation outputs and suggest improvements.Participate in the OECD Community of practices on data visualisation, to be aware of initiatives and available tools be used for data visualisations.

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Profile

Academic Background

Post-secondary education preferably in one or more of the following relevant disciplines such as computer sciences, data sciences, scientific communication, computer science, graphic design, or similar and related fields.

Professional Background

At least five years of experience in a scientific, academic, media or research organization, or similar fields.A strong portfolio of projects turning data into insightful visuals.A proven ability to work in a dynamic, international and multi-lingual environment.A demonstrated interest in energy and environmental topics or other relevant fields.

Tools

Excellent knowledge of MS Office, in particular Excel and PowerPointExcellent knowledge of Adobe Illustrator; experience with other Adobe products, especially Photoshop, InDesign, and After Effects is a major advantage.Strong design skills including typography, layout and data presentation.Experience peforming data analysis and exctracting insights from large and complex data sets using languages such as R, Python or other statistical analysis packages.Knowledge of GIS mapping software.Experience using Javascript to produce performant and usable interactive data visualisations that run in a web browser. Knowledge of frameworks like Vue or React is a plus.A good knowledge of HTML and CSS.

Languages

Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and knowledge of the other, with a commitment to reach a good working level.

Salary Information

Salary and conditions will depend on the experience of the selected candidate as well as on her/his status (temporary staff or official). T5 Bracket 2 - 3260€/Month
