Internal and external candidates will be considered for this vacancy. Under the overall supervision of the National AVRR Officer and the direct supervision of the Project Team Leader, Cultural Mediation; the successful candidate will support in the implementation of project activities under the programme “RESTART- Reintegration for Sustainable Transition And Resilience in Third countries co funded by the European Union”.

  1. Undertake cultural mediation activities, including facilitation of communication between migrant and staff through interpretation and/ or translations of documents, in a spoken or written language understood by the migrant.
  2. Ensure that each beneficiary fully understands information provided and steps required in the reintegration process by assisting with interpretation and translations in relation to: i) Documents needed to facilitate beneficiaries’ reintegration to their Country of Origin (CoO), ii) Interviews conducted by Reintegration team, iii) Information provided by Reintegration Counsellors.
  3. As assigned, be on call to provide interpretation and facilitate communication in the field either in-person or remotely (via phone). 
  4. Escort the migrant as needed to asylum, local/ national authorities, embassies, etc. appointments and assist with interpretation as needed. Escort medical or vulnerable cases to the CoO as may be assigned. 
  5. Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of all Reintegration-related information in line with IOM standards of conduct and data protection rules. 
  6. Demonstrate a general understanding of relevant Reintegration SOPs, as well as the ability to remain professional, impartial and unbiased during all interactions with migrants and colleagues per the IOM Code of Conduct and instruction on the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA).
  7. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.  Education
    • University degree in Social Sciences, Humanities or a related field from an accredited academic institution with minimum two years of relevant work experience; or 
    • High School degree/certificate with minimum four years of relevant work experience.Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Experience and skills 
      • Minimum two years previous work experience in a similar role;
      • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment preferred;
      • Demonstrated ability to draft and prepare clear and concise correspondence in all languages required for this position; 
      • Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles;
      • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and to keep deadlines;
      • Computer literacy in standard software applications (MS Word, MS Excel) is mandatory.Languages
