Company Description

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Job Description

Introduction

The Engineering Department (EN) pushes forward the limits of technology so that physicists can carry out their research. Within the Cooling and Ventilation (CV) group of the EN department, you will join the Project (PJ) section, which is in charge of coordination and management of cooling and ventilation projects for installation of new systems, upgrade of existing systems and consolidation of old systems both for existing and future CERN accelerators and experiments.

The Future Circular Collider (FCC) study is developing designs for a new research infrastructure to host the next generation of higher performance particle colliders to extend the research currently being conducted at CERN’s flagship Large Hadron Collider the LHC, once the High-Luminosity phase (HL-LHC) reaches its conclusion in around 2040.

Are you a mechanical engineer, specialised in industrial cooling and ventilation installations? Contribute your skill and experience to the design and construction of highly complex large cooling and ventilation plants in a unique environment hosting some of the world’s most complex technical installations. Join CERN’s Cooling and Ventilation Project team. Take part!

Functions

As a Cooling and Ventilation Engineer, you will take a major role in feasibility studies, design and construction of HVAC, cooling and refrigeration systems within the context of PJ section projects.

You will:

Collect and define user requirements from main stakeholders.Perform feasibility studies and detailed designs of industrial HVAC, smoke extraction, cooling and refrigeration , water supply and reject water systems, including sizing and cost estimates for the proposed solutions.Produce technical reports and notes.Draw up technical specifications and all relevant documents, follow up tendering process up to the adjudication of future contracts (supply and installation, consultancy).Follow up and regularly report on project's progress.Ensure technical coordination and supervision of contracts.Manage cost and schedule up to the commissioning and formal acceptance of the systems.Support the colleagues in charge of the operation in the troubleshooting and process improvement of existing plants. Actively contribute to the development and improvement of the internal procedures, technical prescriptions and standardisation of the technical solutions.
