The incumbent shall work under the direct supervision of the Communications and Publications Officer, and under the authority of the Director UNESCO New Delhi and will assist in the development and implementation of external communications for UNESCO New Delhi including social and digital media, web, public relations, branding and publications.
Duties and responsibilities:
1. Assist in the preparation of office public information material, such as brochures, press kits, articles, press releases, and annual reports, as and when required; Manages and elaborates content on the UNESCO website, ensuring information is clearly presented, relevant and continuously updated.
2. Produce advocacy and communication materials (e.g. images, videos, Facebook social media posts, etc.) in accordance with UNESCO standards and guidelines;
3. Generate and/or edit Sector news content in text as well as multimedia formats, for dissemination on various platforms; Provides communication support as need for seminars, lectures, conferences, public events on major issues and events concerning the UNESCO
4. Maintain contacts with media representatives and others to promote the activities of the organization. Ensure that responses to direct or indirect requests for information about the work of the organization promote better understanding of its objectives and activities;
5. Design and implement digital media campaigns aligned with priorities of UNESCO;
6. Promote and track UNESCO New Delhi’s brand and the work of the organization through social media networks (including future networks that may emerge on digital platforms), and provide more information as and when required;
7. Develop partnerships to enhance the digital footprint of the office;
8. Keep abreast of innovation and trends in social media and provide alternative strategies to leverage and measure impact of social media activity.
9. Develop and nurture close, collaborative working relationships with colleagues (researchers, media, experts etc.) internally and externally to promote and embed the work of Office.
For UN joint programme activities, produces success stories, case studies and features to share with stakeholders and audiences, regularly communicates UN joint programme progress and impacts online.
• Develops and maintains close working relationships with UN communication officers and focal points to disseminate information about the UNESCO activities
• Maintains a photo database that contains images expressive of the issues, actions and results the UNESCO is working on.
Coordinates with service providers (e.g. printers, designers, photographers, writers, editors, advertising/ marketing/event coordination agencies).
10. Carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the post as requested by supervisor and Director of UNESCO New Delhi.
Education:
Bachelors degree in either mass communication/Journalism, public relations or in any other related field/equivalent
Work Experience:
At least 2 years of work experience. Previous experience in international development bodies would be considered as an asset.
Professional experience:
• Solid understanding of a broad range of development issues.
• Experience in conceptualizing and managing the production of printed materials, including detailed reports.
• Experience with managing websites
• Demonstrated experience of dealing with media
• Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing communication and/or media outreach plans in support of overall corporate goals, including preparing presentations.
• Demonstrated experience in developing content that clearly communicates development ideas and experiences for media, web, print production, and audio-visual productions.
• Experience in overseeing translations work.
• Competent with office software packages, including PowerPoint, excel, basic design software.
Languages:
Excellent drafting skills in English. Knowledge of another UN official language would be considered as an asset.
The duration of the contract is initially 1 year with a probation period of 3 months, with the possibility of extension depending on the availability of funds and the performance of the candidate.
UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, 24 days certified sick leave etc.
The approximate Gross monthly starting salary for this post is INR 102,013/- (including 15% social security with 10% representing Pension and 5% representing Medical).
