Organizational Context
Global hunger has reached alarming levels in 2022, and WFP, the Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2020, remains dedicated and committed to address this global food crisis. The United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) is a network of strategically located hubs established to support humanitarian organizations and the broader international community in responding to emergencies and crises. UNHRD provides essential services such as storage, easy access to critical supplies, and technical assistance.
Job Purpose
To develop, plan and implement communication activities that support redefining UNHRD as a go-to global hub for emergency preparedness and response, trusted by local and international partners for its expertise, problem-solving capabilities, and extensive network. The position will work in the Strategy Cell, reporting to the Partnership Officer P4 (Head of Strategy cell P4).
Key Accountabilities:
Proactively support the development of a UNHRD communication strategy and implement it according to the plan, emphasizing its role as a strategic platform for partners to provide the required solutions in emergency response.
Align communication initiatives with organizational goals and stakeholder expectations, ensuring visibility of initiatives and activities across the different UNHRD hubs, and contributing to enhancing UNHRD’s positioning and reputation.
Evaluate communication campaigns and initiatives, measure their impact, and propose adjustments to the strategy as needed to optimize results and engagement.
Produce and create compelling communication content (videos, pictures, articles, testimonials, etc) tailored to diverse audiences, effectively conveying UNHRD's value proposition and impact.
Manage distribution channels, including social media platforms, to amplify reach and engagement.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal and external media professionals and channels to facilitate proactive media coverage of UNHRD initiatives.
Monitor media coverage and use analytics to measure communication impact, informing continuous improvement strategies. Address reputational risks promptly and effectively when applicable.
Contribute to the definition of a dynamic social media plan to leverage digital platforms, networks, and partnerships and implement the plan for increased visibility and support of UNHRD's activities.
Collaborate with resource mobilization teams to align communication efforts with donor priorities and objectives.
Identify opportunities and emerging practices in media and communication and recommend innovative solutions to enhance communication effectiveness.
Provide guidance and support to UNHRD senior colleagues with representation roles to ensure alignment and coherence in communication approaches and messaging.
When required, provide technical expertise and guidance on communication-specific risks and mitigation strategies.
Assess the current state of branding at each hub, including flags, signage, wall art, and promotional materials. Identify outdated elements that need to be replaced with new standardized designs and products that reflect the current brand identity, in line with corporate requirements.
Maintain and consolidate a regular exchange within the SCO Division and with CAM and generate and/or facilitate the production of communications content, including, text, photos, and videos for use across a range of integrated online platforms, to support WFP global communications activities.
Collaboration with and aligned on WFP and supply chain messaging and comms strategies
Qualifications:
University degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, ora related field.
Minimum 5 years of proven experience in supporting the development and implementing of communication strategies, preferably in the humanitarian or international development sector.
Good understanding of media relations, social media management, and content creation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
Proficiency in multimedia content creation (videos, pictures, articles) and distribution channels.
Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with media professionals and stakeholders.
Analytical skills to evaluate communication impact and propose adjustments for optimization.
Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and guide senior colleagues on communication approaches.
Fluency (level C) in English language. Knowledge of the language of the duty station (Arabic) is desirable.
This is an International Professional position and is open to all nationalities.
The selected candidate will be employed on a limited fixed-term contract of 1 year renewable.
A Limited Fixed-Term Appointment (LFT) position is a non-mobile staff appointment in the international professional category for a limited period of up to 4 years. The position is based in Dubai, UAE and the selected candidate will be expected to relocate. Incumbents of LFT positions are not eligible to apply for other mobile positions advertised internally through the Reassignment.
WFP offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in line with ICSC standards (http://icsc.un.org) including basic salary, post adjustment, relocation entitlement, visa, travel and shipment allowances, 30 days' annual leave, home leave, an education grant for dependent children, a pension plan, and medical insurance.
