Organizational Context and Scope

Since the inception of IOM in 1951, Movement Operations have been and continue to be a fundamental pillar of the Organization’s work. The organized movement of persons in need of international migration assistance is a primary mandate of the Organization and a cornerstone of IOM’s operations. Movement Operations Units in various IOM Country Offices, coordinated under the Resettlement and Movement Management (RMM) Unit in the Movement, Resettlement and Labour Pathways Division at IOM’s Geneva Headquarters, are responsible for all aspects of travel for migrants and refugees under IOM’s auspices, in accordance with the various framework agreements with resettlement and receiving Governments and partners across the spectrum of the Organization's programmes. 

Under the general supervision of the Chief of Mission, the direct supervision of National Movement Operations Manager, and the technical supervision of Focal point for PDO, the Childminder, is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Encourage and support children in group activities such as making crafts, etc. to create and improve their spirit of cooperation and teamwork.Make sure the babysitting area is clean and free from dust and to make sure there is no trash around Childcare center area.Record the daily children/baby attendancesCreate daily activities for children.Provide the supervisor with the list of requirements for children classes and prepare necessary materials.Report to the supervisor any suspected social issues and health related issues which might occur at childcare center.Keep an open mind to learn new knowledge/skills.Any other duties as required.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

EDUCATION:

•              High School Diploma with four years of relevant experience, or 

•              Bachelors or Equivalent or Higher Degree from an accredited academic institution with at least 2 years of relevant professional experience.

EXPERIENCE:

•              Working experience in a childcare or daycare/kindergarten will be an asset

•              An understanding of the migrant training programmes in the assigned area and settlement context of the destination countries. 

SKILLS:

•              Computer/software literate with good knowledge in Microsoft Office.

•              Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate 

•              Attention to detail and ability to organize one’s own work.

•              Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills. 

•              Knowledge of best practices in adult and youth learning. 

•              Highly motivated with strong interest in humanitarian dynamic and energetic with resilience to manage work pressure.

Languages:

REQUIRED:

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish, all staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages. 

For this position, fluency in English and Dari is required and Pashto is optional (oral and written). 

DESIRABLE:

Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage, as are other beneficiary languages are an asset.
