Breeding Operation Support Specialist CIMMYT

Overview This position will support CGIAR and national agriculture research system (NARS) Institutions to improve their breeding operations.

Duties and responsibilities

1. Lead capacity development initiatives in the region to increase adoption of T&N services, improve effectiveness of T&N services.

2. Provide first support to customers of T&N services.

3. Connecting customers with specialists (consultants, engineers, etc..).

4. Supporting CGIAR/NARES breeding Networks, centers, and research stations to improve Trialing & Nursery operations by:

· Support the development of CAPEX investment plan/proposals.

5. Ensure CGIAR/NARES breeding networks will have access to shared services in the scope of T&N, such as:

· High-throughput Phenotyping

· Engineering services

· Agronomic support

6. Visit CGIAR/NARES research stations and identify gaps and opportunities to improve adoption of T&N services.

7. Implement T&N projects in the region (pilots, infrastructure projects managed by T&N, etc.

Requirements

Degree in the field of plant science, agronomy, agriculture engineering.
+5 years’ experience in plant breeding, breeding operations, or operations management in agriculture sector
Relevant experience in agriculture sector
Strong knowledge of mechanization technologies, irrigation systems, and farm equipment.

Terms and conditions • This is a Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) position and on competitive remuneration in local currency, commensurate with skills and experience.
• The appointment will be for a period of two (2) years, inclusive of a six-month probationary period, with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources.
• The duty station will be in Nairobi, Kenya.
