Organizational Setting
The main aim of the FAO Country Offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments in developing policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and nutrition and reduce hunger and malnutrition, promote sustainable agricultural development, reduce rural poverty, develop inclusive agri-food systems and strengthen livelihood resilience – in line with the Organization’s Strategic Objectives and United Nations’ global and Government of Egypt’s national Sustainable Development Goals.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of FAO Egypt Office, the direct supervision of Project Manager and in close collaboration with the project team and FAO Egypt country office persons involved in the implementation of this project, the Biogas Specialist shall focus his/her initial input into the below listed key and specific functions.
Technical Focus
Biogas production from animal wastes to be promoted as environmentally friendly intervention for waste management at farm level with capacity to develop communication materials and short animation movies advocating for the adoption of biogas production using animal waste as a mean for green energy production.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Undertake assessment on the feasibility and sustainability of biogas production using animal waste, including cost-benefit assessment of small scale versus large scale establishments.
• Identify beneficiary livestock producers for piloting biogas development.
• Design and identify in consultation with relevant government and private stakeholders the requirements for biogas development.
• Assist in procurement of inputs and services necessary for biogas production.
• Provide support to private companies/enterprises in the business of biogas development and maintenance.
• Provide support to construction of physical infrastructure for biogas production.
• Develop practical manual on production of biogas from animal waste.
• Train livestock farmers on techniques of biogas production using animal waste.
• Undertake monitoring and follow-up of the pilot biogas development programme.
• Develop communication materials and short animation movies for promoting biogas as environmentally friendly intervention for waste management at farm level and production of green energy
FAO Standards and guidelines:
• Liaison with OCC will be maintained, either directly or through an agreed focal point/coordinator, to ensure compliance with OCC standards, aligned messaging, and appropriate review and clearance processes.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• Advanced university degree in agriculture science, veterinary science or a related field
• Five years of relevant experience in Biogas production and preparation of related communication materials
• Working knowledge in the English and Arabic languages
• National of Egypt
