IFC’s Economics & Private Sector Development Vice Presidency ensures a consistent focus on development results and impact across IFC's operations. Our team provides independent economic analysis to all of IFC's operations, and leads blended finance programming and partnership development. The Vice Presidency supports the implementation of IFC’s business strategy for effective delivery of our programs to clients and partners, in close collaboration with relevant counterparts across the World Bank Group.
The Partnerships and Blended Finance Department sits within the Economics & Private Sector Development Vice Presidency. It has two primary functions: a Partnerships unit that engages in fundraising from a variety of sovereign and non-sovereign counterparts for use in IFC advisory services and in providing blended concession finance; and a Blended Finance unit that manages the deployment of IFC blended finance and reporting back to donors to ensure use of their funds are consistent with donor intent and optimized for development impact.
The Associate Operations Officer will report to the Principal Portfolio Officer in the Office of the Director, Partnerships and Blended Finance.
Roles and Responsibilities
Key aspects of the role include but are not limited to:
• Data Visualization & Reporting: Design and develop interactive dashboards and reports using tools like Power BI, ensuring clear and compelling communication of complex data to diverse audiences. Utilize data storytelling techniques to make the data more engaging and understandable.
• Data Analysis & Insights: Analyze large datasets, uncover trends, patterns, and actionable insights, enabling strategic decision-making for the Department. Manage data projects using internal datasets as well as large datasets built from publicly available sources.
• Advanced Analytics & Data Modeling: Design and implement data models leveraging emerging technologies. Utilize tools such as Power Query, Alteryx, SQL, and Power BI for data collection, wrangling, transformation, and visualization to ensure high-quality, structured datasets for advanced analysis.
• Process Optimization & Automation: Enhance reporting processes by identifying opportunities for automation and addressing unmet reporting needs to improve efficiency.
• Data Validation and Processing: Validate or guide junior staff to validate raw datasets from various IFC accounting and IT systems, spot outliers and identify root causes, and develop technical solutions, with the ultimate goal of building a well-structured database for advanced modeling and visualization.
• Cross-Departmental Data Support and Collaboration: Provide data support as needed and collaborate with cross-departmental teams, such as Trust Funds, Corporate Strategy, IT, Accounting, Risk, etc.
• Ad-hoc Data Support: Respond to ad-hoc data requests by providing analytical and data visualization support for decision-making, narratives, presentations and reports across the Partnerships team and broader department.
Selection Criteria
• Master’s degree in business administration (MBA), finance, economics, or relevant field.
• 5-8 years of experience in data analytics or another related field.
• Knowledge of IFC’s operations, data, systems and reporting is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to apply and conduct high-quality quantitative and qualitative analysis, with the capacity to summarize the results for a non-expert audience.
• Demonstrated understanding of financial concepts, and application of data science in financial, corporate or investment operations domains.
• Expertise in Power BI (data modeling, DAX, Power Query, data visualization, and AI insights), SQL, and Alteryx, as well as some experience with programming languages such as Python or R.
• Ability to communicate clearly with IT, Accounting, Corporate Portfolio and Risk counterparts on technical requirements or finding solutions. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess an analytical mindset with the ability to critically evaluate data and connect it to other datasets or business needs, along with an aptitude for learning and applying new data science and data management technologies.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
• Excellent English writing and editing skills.
• Demonstrated project management skills.
• Self-motivated, creative, excellent organizational skills, proven ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a willingness to work in a team environment.
