Purpose of Job
The Associate Director, Senior Banker I (“AD”) is responsible for all aspects of the project cycle, including project origination, structuring, due diligence, execution, implementation and (where relevant) monitoring, for all types of investment instruments offered by the Bank. The AD is also responsible for business/pipeline development, client management and policy dialogue.
Externally, the AD is one of the Bank’s representatives with clients and other stakeholders, while internally the AD is responsible for ensuring that projects are originated, executed, implemented and monitored in line with the procedures, policies and strategies of the Bank.
The AD takes responsibility for effective leadership of project teams, supervises junior banking staff, and provides adequate coaching and mentoring assistance. The AD also has a primary role in leading complex transactions or new frameworks and may be engaged in the bank-wide or department-wide product development projects.
The project life cycle involves several stages from origination to signing, followed by implementation and monitoring until full completion and repayment or exit. All the stages involve different tasks such as business marketing, project due diligence analysis, structuring and approval, negotiation and signing of project agreements, disbursement and monitoring.
The role of the AD includes business origination and development of debt and equity transactions (along the full spectrum of transaction complexity), and ensuring timely and technically accurate delivery, effective implementation and monitoring of portfolio projects in line with the Bank’s operational objectives. The AD leads more junior colleagues to ensure efficient processing of deal flow and portfolio monitoring.
The AD builds and maintains relationships at their peer level with internal and/or external stakeholders in relation to business development, project execution, implementation and monitoring, policy dialogue, co-financing arrangements and donor funding, as applicable.
The ultimate responsibility over the business plan delivery including managing internal and external stakeholders lies with the Regional Heads or Team Director and AD should consult them when critical business decisions need to be made in this respect.
Depending on relevant skills and experience, the AD might also be expected (under the supervision of the Regional Heador Team Director) to undertake some strategic tasks for the team as a whole including but not limited to business development responsibilities, project portfolio management responsibilities, and/or leading policy dialogue initiatives. Building capacity of junior colleagues through coaching and mentoring is an integral part of the AD role. The AD could also be given some direct country coverage responsibility that would include managing all aspects relating the origination, execution and monitoring of transaction, coordination with the relevant RO and management of key relevant external and internal stakeholders.
