Position Objective
The Artificial Intelligence Software Development Specialist will be in charge of the design, development, testing, and deployment of AI-based solutions to be implemented both as independent applications and/or integrated into the current GCF ecosystem of applications.

Purpose

  • Design and implement knowledge products focused on the effective and efficient management of AI projects and programs, ensuring they align with organizational priorities and industry best practices.
  • Develop various GenAI-powered solutions and user-facing interphases that aim at automating processes and creating efficiencies.
  • Respond proactively to shifts in technological trends, continuously researching new cutting-edge software libraries, frameworks, and solutions to new and ongoing projects.
  • Independently develop of machine learning Large Language Models (LLM) that enable predictive analysis of data for programmatic and institutional purposes.
  • Independently identity and analyze the Fund’s operational needs, leveraging AI capabilities to ensure optimal delivery of the Fund’s mission and continuous performance improvement.
  • Lead the formation and development of an AI-focused team, making use of a deep subject matter expertise to train and mentor team members, ensuring the transfer of technical knowledge and best practices.


    Engagement

    • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure optional definition of business requirements, facilitating collaboration and agreement from stakeholders and identifying opportunities for mutually beneficial AI solutions that drive operational efficiencies.
    • Represent the Green Climate Fund in external engagements, including conferences and strategic meetings, exchanges of AI-related information, best practices and lessons learned, strengthening the Fund’s leadership in AI and automation.
    • Advise programmatic and institutional offices on AI-related policies, strategies, and programs, ensuring that they are designed for maximum organizational impact and relevance to evolving business needs.
    • Mentor and train the team, providing technical guidance and fostering an environment of continuous learning and innovation to build the team’s AI development capabilities.

      Delivery

      • Develop frameworks and processes that synthesize lessons learned and best practices, continuously improving AI programming and project outcomes.
      • Write documentation and perform testing of new and existing applications and features.
      • Devise tools and methodologies to maintain and evolve the responsiveness of AI services, ensuring they address evolving business needs.
      • Implement enhancement requests from different business units.
      • Provide expert technical guidance to staff and consultants, ensuring alignment with the Fund’s mission and leveraging a deep understanding of AI technologies to guide complex projects.
      • Establish and maintain a knowledge-sharing environment, through structured training sessions and on-the-job learning opportunities.
      • Support the Development Team in other administrative work as required.

        Requirements (Education, experience, technical competencies required of the job)

        • Master’s degree in computer science, artificial intelligence or other related field. Bachelor’s degree with an additional 2 years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree requirement.
        • 9 years of software development professional experience, including frontend and backend development, and demonstrated leadership in AI projects or initiatives;
        • 3 years minimum experience developing AI-based solutions;
        • Proven ability to lead and mentor AI Development teams, with a track record of building and developing high-performing technical teams in AI-focused environments;
        • Experience in shaping and influencing the strategic direction of AI initiatives in collaboration with senior leadership, aligning technical solutions with the broader organizational goals;
        • Experience utilizing modern software development tools (Github, VSCode) and Cloud platform environments (Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services);
        • Experience with CI/CD Deployment pipelines (Azure DevOps, Github Actions);
        • Proficiency in the Python programming language and AI-related libraries (TensorFlow, SciPy);
        • Knowledge of formal project management methodologies: Project Management Institute PMBOK or PRINCE2 and a related certification is desirable;
        • Experience with Microsoft Teams bot development will be a plus;
        • Excellent writing and presentation skills;
        • Ability to liaise with Business Process Owners and support them in translating their operational needs into actionable technical requirements;
        • Work experience in international organizations is a distinct advantage;
        • Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of other United Nations languages is an advantage.
